Madikwe Game Reserve is home not only to the Africa’s ‘big five’ (lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopard), but also to a wealth of over 66 mammal species, including the rare African wild dog, cheetah, eland, kudu, giraffe and more than 300 resident and migratory bird species.
Situated on the Botswana border, just three hours’ drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, Madikwe is one of the largest private game reserves in South Africa. The reserve consists of vast plains of open woodlands and grasslands, dissected by a ridge of rugged hills and bordered in the south by the Dwarsberg Mountains. The area is dotted with huge rocky outcrops known as inselbergs.
Stunning Surroundings
Madikwe Hills Main Lodge offers accommodation in ten luxurious glass fronted suites. These are built into a rocky kopje and enjoy expansive views over the bush. Other facilities include a swimming pool, library, gym and spa. The water hole in front of the lodge attracts a variety of wildlife including elephant and various antelope species. Little Madikwe is a private, two bedroom lodge adjacent to Madikwe Hills. It is booked on an exclusive use basis and is perfect for those wishing for a little extra privacy.
