Machaca Hill Lodge

La Machaca Lodge, formerly El Pescador Punta Gorda, is located in the undiscovered paradise of the Toledo District in southern Belize. The lodge offers an elegant rainforest experience in a secluded region but is conveniently located 1 hour by air from Belize City and five miles by road north of Punta Gorda Town. The resort encompasses 470 acres nestled in coastal mountains and rainforest along 1.5 miles of the Rio Grande, offering world-class birding, hiking, and Mayan exploration. The clear blue river offers fabulous canoeing, swift and easy access to the flats and cayes of the Caribbean Sea 20 minutes downstream. Machaca Hill Lodge, is recognised as a world class angling destination.

La Machaca Lodge is a world class fly fishing resort that hosts one of the world's most prolific permit fisheries. The port of Honduras Marine Reserve and Snake Cayes provide a fantastic habitat for permit with its 130 plus cayes, rivers, lagoons and coastal mangroves. The reserve is located just north of Punta Gorda Town. This is a short boat ride from the lodge. In addition to the Permit, La Machaca offers opportunities for several additional saltwater species including barracuda, jack crevelle, snapper, and King Fish. We encourage you to take advantage of this unique permit fishery but remember this opportunity is never easy..."it's challenging". This natural diversity will better serve the interest of experienced traveller/angler. The fishing primarily takes place in the flats around the inner reef cayes, lagoons, rivers and land locked lagoons.

The main lodge features a reception area, restaurant, bar, reading room, fly shop, gift shop, conference room and sprawling verandas on two levels. Punta Gorda offers fine accommodations with 12 magnificently appointed individual cabanas terraced above a jungle hillside atop the Rio Grande. Each generous cabana is furnished with two queen size beds, a sitting area including a day bed, private bath with hand made ceramic tile, luggage storage and rod holders. All areas of the hotel have drinking water at every tap! Your cabana is equipped with all the amenities including air-conditioning. However, the cool river valley evenings and ceiling fans will keep you comfortable most of the year. Each cabana comes with its own private veranda overlooking the brilliant vistas of vast jungle reserves and the wildlife corridor. La Machaca offers a host of on-site activities for those that choose not to fish. These options include spa facilities, jungle tours, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, birding, swimming in either the fresh water pool or the Rio Grande River or visiting a local Mayan burial ground.
Client Comments:
"Excellent lodge, great fishing particularly for permit. Nice change to fish on the mainland and use it as a base for some non-fishing activities". Robert, Wiltshire.
