Golden Pheasant Charity Clay Shoot, 21 June 2014

The Golden Pheasant charity Clay Shoot was held on Friday 21st June 2014 at The Oxfordshire Shooting School to raise money for the World Pheasant Association.

The sun was out, and in a few brave cases, so were the shorts. There were some very good scores on the board at the end of the day although it could be said that the two Aardvark McLeod teams should stick to fishing. I think it is fair to say that Aardvark One (led by Peter McLeod) and Aardvark Two (the celtic contingent with Steff Jones) didn't fare too well but did manage to bring home a prize or two (although I am not at liberty to say what they were for). We will however be petitioning Keith Howman for a 'best dressed gun' as our Celtic gun would be in the running for that even if his glasses do steam up and obscure his target.

Many, many thanks to George, Clare and Brandon for trekking up from London and Helen and George for leaving the peace and quiet of the farm in Hamphshire to come along to support the cause.

My personal thanks to Jean Howman for keeping me on her team despite my occasional bent barrels and to my fellow Amazons, Patsy and Shirley for a hugely entertaining day out.

With more teams than last year, we are waiting for the final tally but it looks to have been a very succesful day with some fantastic auction prizes going to very good homes and raising more money in the process.

Enormous thanks as always to Jean and Keith Howman, John Milne and Rosey Northcote-Smith for keeping us all to the agenda on the day and to James and his fantastic team at the OSS.

If you would like to help to conserve the world's beautiful and increasingly rare wild pheasants, the WPA would be delighted to receive a donation and is a registered charity, #271203. For more information on the WPA, plesae contact Keith Howman or telephone 01932 254855.
