Estancia Maria Behety (EMB) – La Villa – Fishing Report –  2 – 9 February, 2019. Sea trout fishing on the Rio Grande, Argentina.

Another week just ended at La Villa Estancia Maria Behety.

Great week, nice group, the fishing was very good, the first 3 days the weather was amazing, the temperature got to 30 c, fish were really active. The last 3 days temperatures drop, still good fishing, 121 fish were landed, 35 fish over 15 pounds, 9 over 20, Average weight 11.5 pounds.

Sinking lines with nymph worked very good, also floating and intermediate lines with salmon flies were excellent.
All the anglers got more than 20 fish for the week.
Top rod of the week was Brad Winstrom with 34 fish on the net, the biggest 24 pounds.
Gareth Jones landed the biggest fish with 25 pounds.
James moon got fish each session.

Water Conditions
Water colour and visibility: Very clear water.
Water temperature: 10c to 18c.
Water level: low and clear, dropping fast.

Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: the wind blows northwest as usual, it wasn’t strong all week.
Air temperature ranges through the week: 9c to 30c ,
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): first 3 days the temperature got to 30 c.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: Nymphs: emb, wonder bug, rubber legs nymphs. Different sizes of sunray shadows. Big flies for the last hour: big tube flies, intruder, leeches.
Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11, scandi with polyleaders .
Length and strength of tippet and leaders: 9 to 12 feet. 15 to 20 pounds.
Sinking lines with nymph were the best.
Floating lines worked very good the first 3 days, using aluminium sunray And very small salmon flies, great caches on top getting to 20 pounds.
Most of the fish were in the lower and middle part of the river, upper part is not so good, but getting better.
All fish were fresh in the lower and middle part.
