Mexico boasts some of the best saltwater flats fly fishing to be found, from the tarpon rich waters around the Gulf of Mexico coastline to the permit filled bays of Chetumal and Xcalak. In the middle lies the expansive Ascension Bay, the destination for anglers in search of Grand Slams and Super Grand Slams – bonefish, tarpon, permit and snook. Due to the prolific nature of these flats and the volume of fishable water there are a variety of lodges that operate in the area, each one offering a unique experience in this saltwater fly fisher’s paradise. Casa Blanca Lodge is one of the longest standing lodges in the Carribean, and being further south than Punta Allen is somewhat away from the crowds.

Casa Blanca is situated on the northern tip of Punta Pájaros, on the southern side of Ascension Bay. It offers access to a very different part of the bay to the lodges in Punta Allen on the northern side. This side of the bay also offers some of the finest Caribbean flats permit fishing along with bonefish and tarpon. Situated one hundred miles to the south of Cancun and covering over eight- hundred square miles, Ascension Bay sticks out on the map. Numerous perfect bonefish flats dot the bay, the permit water is endless, and the creek and river inlets in the back of the bay can keep a snook and tarpon fisherman busy for days. Runs from the lodge to the fishing can be anywhere from five minutes to over an hour. The fishing is predominantly done from skiffs rather than wading.

Anglers at Casa Blanca start the day with the sunrise over the Caribbean and a delicious made to order breakfast, served from 0600 to 0700. Hot coffee is always ready by 0500 in the main lodge, or can be delivered to the room, as desired. Guides are ready to go any time after seven, anglers need only make their way to the waiting skiffs by the pier.

Casa Blanca’s close proximity to the prime fishing areas in Ascension Bay means less travel time and more hours on the water than any other area fishing lodges. Anglers typically return to the lodge in late afternoon. Some guests indulge in swims or massages, while others relax and reflect with cold drinks, tasty appetizers and good friends.

Casa Blanca lodge is built right on the water the overlooking a beautiful flat. All rooms are spacious and well-appointed with remarkable ocean views, air conditioning, tile floors and mahogany shutters. Casa Blanca has ten seaside rooms and can accommodate 22 people comfortably. In the open-air main lodge you will find comfortable lounging chairs and a fully stocked bar with accommodating bartender.

Whilst fly fishing is the main activity, this pristine slice of paradise has much more to offer. Snorkelling and kayaking the turquoise waters, hiking and biking along 25 miles of private beaches and coves, touring the mangrove lagoons and the Mayan ruins, or simply indulging in a massage and a day of relaxation are just a few possibilities. All activities are personally tailored to suit your schedule. Wireless internet is also available at the lodge and usually provides an adequate service.
