The spectacular foliage colours of this autumn have been reflected on the sides of the magnificent grayling that have been captured over the last week. A monster cock fish of over 3lb was caught on our Heale Estate Broads beat last Friday along with countless others by Chris Pearce, guided by Alex Jardine. This is one of the largest Avon grayling that has been reported for many years and is an exceptional fish once again proving the quality of this river highlighted earlier this year in the Salmon & Trout Conservation UK Riverfly Survey. The beat represents excellent value at £40 per rod and the ½ mile beat fishes 2 rods with ease. Wading is allowed at the upper end of the beat above the islands.
This beat will stay open until the end of December and the crystal clear water at the moment provides ideal stalking conditions using deep sunk nymphs.

The river Test and Anton are also producing their fair share of quality fish with Gareth Jones of BVG Airflow and his father catching many fish to 2 ½ lbs, again mainly on deep nymphs.
We still have some very limited availability on the Anton during November but far better choices during December up to the close at the end of the year.

From the old and new sets of flies above, the common denominator is the inclusion of bright colour in the tyings which grayling seem to love.
