Farquhar Atoll Fishing News | 23rd – 30th Oct 2019

Another fantastic week of flats fishing has come to an end on Farquhar Atoll. Throughout the week we had fantastic weather with dropping wind speeds and clear skies. The week started started with neap tides which then moved to new moon spring tides.

A total of 21 GT were landed this week. John Duty landed the largest GT of the week at 90 cm.  This was Mike Becci’s first time fishing the salt and came in a close second with an 87 cm fish. Jarret Duty landed four GTs as did Colin Taylor. Gary Horican landed three. John Duty JR landed two and so did Craig Durby and Tom Gray. Eric Meyer landed one.

Along with great GT fishing, the rest of the flats species were active. Six triggerfish were caught, the biggest being a personal best for Craig, a huge 60 cm yellowmargin trigger. Mike landed a massive moustache trigger of 56 cm and Colin caught his first, a big 54 cm moustache. Jarret was able to catch both species in the same day.

34 bonefish were brought to hand with the largest being a huge 68×38 cm fish landed by Eric. Eric also landed his first Indo-Pacific permit.

Two bumphead parrot fish were landed in the week, one by John Jr on his first cast! The other a 93 cm fish landed by Tom Grey, this bumpy made up part of a slam and was our first of the season!

The first sailfish of the season was landed by Jarret a huge fish and a true trophy.
