As the cold weather begins to descend on our southern chalkstreams and the silver waters reflect the low lying sun, this is a time of seemingly peaceful nature but that is not actually the case. All throughout the valleys river keepers are hard at work fixing banks, creating new structures and generally looking to improve the rivers for the benefits of wildlife and angler alike. Meanwhile the estate managers and fishery owners are beginning to draw up their plans for next season, beat rotations are finalised and we see the first look at next season’s fishing availability.

Mayfly, chalkstream, river test, river anton, river avon,

For many anglers, next season will feel a long way off but for those seeking to fish during the famous mayfly hatches now is the time to contact us. The mayfly hatch is a truly special time to be out on the southern chalkstreams. For the avid anglers there is nothing quite like watching these large flies floating majestically down the stream to suddenly disappear as the neb of a large trout breaks the surface. Heart stopping moments.

Mayfly, chalkstream, river test, river anton, river avon,

Below we have detailed a few first look mayfly days available next season. If you do not see the date or beat you would like or looking for other times in the season do not hesitate to contact us as other options are possible.
