Kendjam, Brazil, 2017 season fishing reports. We are really glad to start our 2nd Fishing season at Kendjam Lodge, and mother nature blessed us with great weather, perfect water levels and excellent fishing.

Our first week was a team of Russian and American anglers. The Russian family arrived excited to experience the Kayapo culture and ancient traditions. 2 young boys of 9 and 14 years old experienced the Kayapo legacy at Kendjam village.

American anglers came with deep expectation for all new jungle species for them. Enjoy these images and week 1 report.

Ivan put all of his experience on salmon and trout fishing to catch a wide variety of jungle species, but the highlight for him was sight fishing upstream for the mighty Pacu with dry flies and nymphs!

All anglers had excellent action of strong peacock bass on moving waters and some crazy wolfish. The Matrinchã sight fishing on dry fly was technical and good anglers get their glory on them.

Kendjam season runs from June to September and holds the most prolific multi-variety species fishery in the Amazon basin.

Fly anglers can  find that this magnificent clear water system is an angler’s nirvana for new species on the fly. Anglers can use six to eight weight rods and rely on many  trout/steelhead/salmon water reading skills and fly fishing techniques to catch several new jungle species!

Kendjam, Brazil, 2017 season fishing reports. Our second fishing week of season was reall good in terms of weather, water and fishing!

We hosted a couple of two very experienced trout anglers who really made their week doing pretty much what they like, walking and wading casting dries upstream. But this time not for Trout. They were catching the mighty Pacu in runs and flats! Trout fisherman could think that’s different, but when you cast to a silver shadow eating on surface with a #8 black fat albert or hopper, you could think you are in your favorite trout stream.

They were in the most pristine sections of Iriri river catching pacus and matrinxãs, guided by our pro english speaking guides but also by the Kayapó Indians, making their best sight fishing in the middle of a crystal clear jungle river.

The upper beats paid with some real trophy sized peacock bass, and due the good light conditions we found perfect sight fishing situation for catching those bass on steroids, and some amazing fast water action!

Wolfish being a pre historic like predator, is really not shy. In Kendjam they are not hunted by other animals (even less humans) and trowing a popper or a streamer for them, is a sure take. They are aggressive and not camera shy, even underwater!

Our third fishing week of season started with a nice surprise. We hosted the Denver Fly Fishing Show Free trip to Kendjam winner, Mr. Josh Smitherman and his girlfriend Jessica Fry. And also a so expected visit of our two friends Oleg Veber and Alena Kirillova with her daughter Anna.

Water Conditions: The river level continue to decrease its level, and get more and more clear. In this week water dropped 7-12 inches!!

Weather: The first rain in 45 days in Kendjam! A shower came to refresh anglers, but as an isolated shower didn’t changed river level neither water transparency. Then God Sun rose again and shone the whole week.

The guest comment of the week: Kendjam provides much more than a incredible sight fishing experience in the jungle. Kendjam is the pure expression of the lost place in our era. Animals living in a huge protected territory protected by the most emblematic Indigenous group of entire Amazon (and maybe the planet) – the Kayapo’s!

Fishing Conditions: The upper beats paid with some even bigger sized peacock bass than past week! Josh and Jessica made their way on peacock bass fishing in clear water and caught countless 4 to 10 pound fish!

The wolfish went crazy!! This was the best wolf-fish week so far, and we found perfect sight fishing situation for catching those T-rex Jungle predators with poppers  including a 18 pounder wolf…

Sight fishing upstream with dries for Pacu is getting even better and those jumping Pacu species filled the day of our anglers with action.

Some nice bicuda were caught, and the challenge of the week was the matrinchas especially due the super clear water conditions.

The fourth week of our season came higher expectations due the excellent fishing during the very first weeks. Our guests knew about quality of fishing and excellent water clarity in previous weeks and came with serious intentions to make it better.

Water Conditions: The river level (as expected for this time of season) continue to decrease more and more, making wet wading incredibly perfect, but challenging for navigation.

Weather: Warm and sunny days, with an isolated rain in the middle of the week.

Wildlife moment of the week: Many mammals appeared this week to our guest and guides lenses. Monkeys, Tapirs, Otters but the highlight was a Jaguar just in front of the lodge in the other side of the river!! And a staff member filmed… So a video is coming soon!

Fishing Conditions: THE TOP WATER WEEK: Top water action was the name of the game in this week. There are some mysteries in the jungle and in of fishing we are always learning. As the water levels and temperatures were not so high as previous week, perhaps was the reason that made fish eat much more in the surface. We had some insane peacock bass in top water flies. Catch them sight fishing in topwater is the best of both worlds.

The upper beats were not as productive as last week for Pacu but compensated by the trophy sizes peacock bass on top.  Mary”Animal” was THE angler of the week with some super-sized Peacock Bass!

The expected “pit bull’s” wolfish appeared again. This guides “nicknamed” this version of wolfish for those wolfish you throw your popper for several times and they will never spook. It’s just the opposite, they will get more excited.  Some bigger bicudas are appearing but they are super-fast on the attack and performs acrobatic jumps when hooked. The larger bicudas are a real challenge. A Fast and furious battle mostly won by the fish.

The special moment of the week was the top water action for peacock bass with dry flies. YES, DRY FLIES. Peacocks were attacking Big Chernobyl ants in runs! It happened rarely, but this week we had some serious action of peacock in small flies for their normal appetite behaviour. An amazing lesson of jungle fly fishing.
