Pira Lodge, Argentina

fishing for golden dorado in Argentina

Pira Lodge is located in Argentina’s Iberá Wetlands, one of the most fascinating marsh systems in the world. The incomparable variety of wildlife found in the five million acre region allows anglers to combine fishing with a number of other activities.

Argentina’s most exciting game fish

For many years one of Argentina’s most exciting game fish was kept a secret in its heartland. Now, the golden dorado, or ‘river tiger’ as it is affectionately known, has been discovered and is a one-of-a-kind fly-fishing experience for anglers from all over the world. Pirá became the world’s first deluxe lodge to specifically target dorado.

The freshwater dorado is a hard fighting and acrobatic fish, known for its strong runs and relentless jumps. This complex and challenging fish can be found near confluences, on the edge of eddies, riffles, sharp bends in the current, and close to overhanging carpets of water hyacinth.

It can be fished in narrow runs, on skinny water, and large fish are hooked in a multitude of different  locations, so let your guide show you where – and how – you can make contact with these incredible fighting fish.

Traditional comforts, local charm

The lodge sits a stone’s throw from the channel that provides direct access to the Iberá marsh system and to the Corrientes River, located 15 minutes to the south. Built in a typical Corrientes style, the lodge enjoys a spectacular, panoramic view of the vast wetlands.

Pirá accommodates up to ten guests in five large rooms, each with a private entrance, private bath, two double beds and air conditioning. A separate building, attached by covered galleries, accommodates the spacious living room, bar and dining room, each with tall doors opening up to the wide veranda.

The lodge was designed to respect the traditional local architecture while offering all of the comforts of a contemporary hotel. Pirá offers wonderful cuisine based on local meats, fresh fruit and vegetables, and delicious deserts.

A traditional Asado (BBQ) will be held once during your stay, and you can sample different cuts of meat and wonderful salads. Breakfast is served al fresco during part of the season, and full cooked breakfast is available, together with fresh fruit, yogurts, home baked bread, jams and a selection of cereals. The  well stocked bar is always open, and a wonderful selection of fine wines from the Luigi Bosca Bodega will be served during lunch and dinner.

“Beautiful lodge and fish. Great guides and staff made us feel very welcome. Only did three days this time, but will certainly extend the stay next time.”  Mr. R. Richards – Devon
