Why Fly Fishing in Finland

Fly fishing in Finland offers exceptional wild trout and grayling fishing in a beautifully unspoilt landscape. With thousands of lakes, rivers, and forests, the country is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and healthy populations of wild fish. The Troutland region in central Finland is one of the country’s premier fly fishing destinations, combining productive private waters, experienced guides, and excellent opportunities to target trophy brown trout and grayling throughout the summer months.

What Makes Fly fishing in Finland so special

The Troutland area is built around an extensive network of rivers, rapids, and interconnected lakes that create ideal habitat for large wild trout. During the summer months, baitfish migrate from the lakes into the faster-flowing rapids to spawn, attracting impressive brown trout that actively hunt these concentrated food sources. The rapids are generally 25 to 40m wide and around one kilometre long, making them highly fishable whether wading, casting from purpose-built platforms, or drifting selected sections by boat. Alongside the outstanding trout fishing, the region also produces excellent grayling fishing, particularly during August when dry fly fishing can be at its very best.
