Fly fishing for tigerfish on Africa’s iconic Zambezi River is a proper African adventure. This great African waterway provides exceptional fishing opportunities along both the Upper and Lower Zambezi systems, where seasonal changes create a dynamic and ever-evolving fishery.

The Zambezi’s annual flood cycle plays a crucial role in shaping fishing conditions. During the wet season, rising waters spread across floodplains and grasslands, allowing baitfish and juvenile species to disperse throughout the ecosystem. As water levels begin to fall, these prey species are funneled back into the main river channels, concentrating tigerfish around drop-offs, channels and current breaks.

Fishing is typically conducted from boats, with anglers casting large streamer patterns towards banks, structure and areas of moving water.

What makes fly fishing in Zambia so special

Zambia offers a true wilderness tigerfish experience, combining exciting sport in a truly spectacular river environment. Anglers typically use large baitfish imitations, heavy leaders and wire traces to cope with the tigerfish’s interlocking teeth.
