Nicholas Dean Outfitters Lodge; Nicholas Dean Lodge and Outfitters offer anglers the fly fishing experience of a lifetime. They are based on the Skeena system in British Columbia, Canada, and include the Copper and Kalum rivers in their portfolio. These rivers have a healthy run of wild salmon (coho/silvers, chum, Chinook/kings, pinks), steelhead and trout species.

The guides at Nicholas Dean have been fishing the Skeena River including the myriad of tributaries in the area (Copper, Kalum etc.) and remote coastal rivers for wild steelhead and Pacific salmon for decades.

They have one of the longest fishing seasons of any lodge in North America. With over 54 rivers, lakes and salt water estuary destinations the guides have the unique ability to plan a different experience daily. From long line casts and big water on the Skeena River, to small gin clear streams, sight casting to Steelhead and coho, or skating a dry fly across a coastal river pool.

They also offer different modes of access from rafting, drift boat, hiking, jet boat or helicopter. Even when bad weather makes fishing conditions tricky in one area, you will simply be moved to another watershed.

The charming and comfortable Pioneer Lodge

Clients are accommodated in the charming Pioneer Lodge. The modern log cabins provide an authentic, uniquely Canadian experience combined with the all the luxurious touches expected from a premier lodge.

The main lodge building is the heart of the operation and captures the real essence of the Canadian wilderness. It houses the communal socializing and dining area as well as the large commercial kitchen. The large lounge area has luxurious La-Z-Boy sofas surrounding a toasty log burner – perfect for relaxing after a hard day on the river and the ideal place to exchange fishing tales.

The guest accommodation comprises of comfortable and relaxing log cabins. The cabins are designed to accommodate two people with minimal intrusion and disturbance, however they can be booked for sole occupancy, with a single person supplement. Each guest will enjoy their own private bedroom with a deluxe double bed with quality linen. Two guests share a shower room which is supplied with abundant hot water from our private, licensed well.  The showers are delightfully powerful, with no added chemicals, just pure spring water – just what is needed to invigorate the body at the end of a long day.

There is an airy lobby area with drinks making facilities and a covered open deck with seating for those who wish to relax al fresco.

Nicholas Dean Outfitters are based just off the Kalum River on the outskirts of Terrace, British Columbia, Canada. It is blessed with being located in the Lower Skeena watershed that boasts numerous productive steelhead and salmon rivers and produces some of the biggest wild steelhead and Pacific salmon in the world.

It is a short distance from the Copper, Nass and Kitimat watersheds and remote coastal streams. No matter what sort of river you have a preference for it can be located within their guiding territory. Nicholas Dean knows where and when to fish these rivers for large wild steelhead, all five species of Pacific salmon, rainbow trout, bull trout, sea-run cutthroat and dolly varden.
