Fishing Irigoyen River, Argentina, sea trout World End Lodge. TDF
It is now just over a week before the first anglers arrive on the Irigoyen at World End Lodge. To say that excitement is building would be an understatement. This is a truly unique river and we firmly believe offers something unique and unsurpassed for those that understand sea trout and such environments.
The following is a report from head guide and lodge manager, Diego Castillo.
We were fishing and scouting the pools on the fantastic Irigoyen river for a couple of days recently.
Water levels were low last week and the weather was very unpleasant, or certainly for us anglers; sunny and warm days with clear skies. Fortunately rain and snow appeared a few days ago and provided much needed water to the river. This made the river raise by a few inches, which was enough to flush the system through but also get the fish running.
With peat stain in the water the river is just fantastic at the moment; Sea trout are ready to start their migration upstream and also ready to intercept your flies…
Beautiful fresh sea trout have been caught during the last few days in the lower beats and some good action in the upper beat but not easy to land the fish – as always, they are tricky fighters and will often throw the hook under a submerged branch. This is part of the fun and part of the Irigoyen experience; sometimes what you land is a very small percentage of what you hook.
In terms of flies; wonder bugs, classic rubber legs small nymph and of course articulated leeches at the evening were the choice.
Lines; Floating and intermediate lines were used in most of the pools and some sinking tips in the big holding pools to try to reach the bottom.
