The 2025 season at Pirarucú Lodge reflected the Amazon at its most authentic — alive, unpredictable, and deeply inspiring. Over several weeks, anglers from around the world arrived seeking encounters with the legendary arapaima, and each one left with moments they will never forget.
From high water in the early season to shifting levels later on, the river transformed constantly. These changes brought new challenges and opportunities, revealing the true essence of fly fishing in the flooded forest. Calm mornings exploded into surface strikes, deep pools tested strength and patience, and every day felt different from the last.
Pirarucú has established itself as one of the few places in the world where it’s possible to catch large tambaqui, a rare and little-known species, especially on fly fishing gear, which makes the experience even more special.

Arapaima remained the undeniable highlight. With their raw power, prehistoric presence, and unforgettable battles they delivered the kind of fishing that defines Pirarucú. As the season progressed into the early reproductive period, the males turned a vivid, glowing red — a breathtaking display only the Amazon can offer.
The diversity of species added depth to the experience. Tambaqui proved once again to be among the strongest fish in the jungle, while arowana provided constant excitement with their surface attacks and agile fights. These encounters completed the rhythm of the lodge, making every outing memorable.
By the end of the season, anglers had landed 232 arapaima, along with dozens of tambaqui and hundreds of arowana — remarkable numbers that speak to the productivity of the Mamirauá Reserve and the guides’ expertise.
But the heart of the season lies in the stories:
First-time anglers connecting with their first arapaima, returning guests witnessing the river in a new phase, and unforgettable moments shared among friends against the backdrop of one of the planet’s most extraordinary ecosystems
