Providence – 9th to 22nd January
The Providence season started with some trying conditions, our anglers persevered and were rewarded with some incredible fish and experienced Providence in all its raw intensity. Despite challenging starts and changing conditions, the atoll produced outstanding fishing, milestone catches, and an unforgettable variety of species.
Giant trevally dominated both weeks and proved once again why Providence holds legendary status as one of the best destinations worldwide. Nick opened the season strongly with a powerful 103cm GT, setting the tone early. Josh followed with an exceptional run of fish, landing several GTs, including a standout 111cm specimen that ranked among the largest of the fortnight. James steadily added multiple GTs across the week, while Shannon landed a beautiful GT measuring in the mid-80cm range. Marshal celebrated a major milestone by landing his first-ever GT, while Deacan enjoyed multiple GT encounters during a memorable week on the flats. Turley group wasted no time, with consistent action across the board. Bobby was the standout performer, landing an incredible 10 GTs, including a powerful 103cm fish. Niall, Greg, Mark, Gavin and Max all added GTs to their tallies, pushing the combined total across both weeks to an impressive 54 fish.

Triggerfish added colour, technical challenge, and some truly impressive specimens. Nick landed a solid 51cm yellow-margin triggerfish, and James added one as well, a first for the father-son duo. Shannon raised the bar with a massive 52cm yellow-margin triggerfish, and Josh continued his exceptional run by landing three triggerfish during his stay. Marshal also joined the triggerfish party, landing his first moustache triggerfish.
Given the tough conditions in the first week, milkfish were scarce, making Deacan’s capture of the only milkfish of that week particularly special. As conditions improved, milkfish numbers increased dramatically, and the Turley group took full advantage, with Gavin, Mark, Max, and Bobby all landing milkfish.
The first couple of days proved tough for bumphead parrotfish as the fish weren’t on the flats, with the improved weather and changes in tides though they moved back on and our anglers took full advantage. Niall landed a memorable bumphead, while Max added two to his tally despite being relatively new to the flats. Bobby capped off his outstanding week by landing a massive bumphead parrotfish, reinforcing his status as one of the top performers of the trip.

Bonefish are not a common occurrence on providence so landing one is a great feat. Marshal did exactly that, with his brother Deacan following suit, landing a truly exceptional fish estimated in the 8–9lb range, a monster by any standard and one of the standout bonefish catches of the period.
Providence’s diversity was further highlighted when Mark landed an impressive Napoleon wrasse during week two, adding yet another iconic species to an already varied catch list and underlining the atoll’s remarkable ecosystem.
Providence Atoll delivered a powerful opening to the 2026 season. From first GTs and triggerfish to big bumphead parrotfish, elusive milkfish, and trophy bonefish, both weeks showcased the atoll’s uncompromising nature and extraordinary rewards
