Set in the remote highlands of Lesotho, Makhangoa Community Camp is a simple, purpose-built lodge. It overlooks the Bokong River valley and has been developed in partnership with the local community. The camp provides access to one of Southern Africa’s most consistent wild brown trout and yellowfish fisheries. Accommodation is comfortable but unfussy, with a clear focus on fishing, walking, and engaging with the surrounding landscape. Revenue from visiting anglers contributes directly to the community income and conservation efforts in this little-visited part of the country.

If you need any further encouragement to go, here’s what makes MCC such an unforgettable experience:

Small groups – max eight rods.
World-class guides.
Community-based tourism that makes a real difference.
Exclusive river access.
Exceptional sight fishing.
A cutting-edge fishery management plan.
A bespoke lodge, inspired by a traditional Basotho homestead.
Incredible farm-style meals and the famous Makhangoa good vibes.

Mobile Wilderness Camp Experience

In March and April the Motsoele Mobile Camp is set up as a complimentary service to all guests. This remote fly camp, 14km upriver from camp, is available to all guests staying for 4 or more nights. It enables you to spend extended times on the far upper beats, in search of trophy brown trout, and yellowfish. The remote pristine wilderness and nights under the stars are as much a part of the experience as the fishing. Nights up at the fly camp can be planned prior to your stay, or in camp with the guide team.  All equipment is supplied. You just need to bring a sleeping bag should you wish to experience this.
