We were joined by anglers from Singapore and Colorado for week two of our season. We started with a lot of rain, but that did not prevent us from catching good-sized dorado, with several catches around 14 and 16lb. We were also able to catch two pacú with insect imitations, and a catfish (surubi). With the high river, we took advantage of the continuous arrival of sábalo, which makes the dorado very active.

Pluma Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 1, June 8 – 15 June

We opened the season with a lot of sábalo arriving in both the Secure and Pluma rivers. The fishing has been very good with many catches, and we’ve observed many dorado hunting in all the fishing beats.

There were also some excellent surface catches. Notably, two dorado weighing 13 and 15lb were caught, as well as two large pacú weighing 16lb. Many migratory dorado weighing 7-8lb were also caught, and we managed to catch yatoranas using fruit imitations. The season opener concluded excellently.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports, September 13 to 20

This week we hosted a group of five guests: two South Africans, one Argentine, one German and one American.

In the beginning of the week rain rose the river, but the water remained clear. So, as always happens in that sort of situation, we had a great day at the moment of conditions changing, with the activity “on fire” everywhere, particularly in the upper beats—both the middle and the farthest one. After that, the water level dropped very quickly and temperature became colder, changing the game and giving us a slower fishing the second half of the week.

Everyone got opportunities and solid connections with medium and large-sized dorado, but the fishermen lost most of them this time. But regardless, a massive 20lb female was landed, as were other fat yellow ones and some very nice yatorana found their end of the battles stranded on the shores.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports, September 6 to 13

Our fifteenth week was shared with five guests from the USA: three men from Montana and two women from Alabama.

This new chapter in the Sècure season didn’t bring rain, which meant the water remained low and clear. This gave us the ideal conditions for using top water flies a lot, finding success everywhere with dorado of all sizes as well as nice yatorana in the lowest beat, hitting the logs and skating foam patterns in the runs downstream from the lodge.

As always, fat yellow ingots won a good number of battles, blowing up wires and leaders, often on the crucial moment of the strip set. But massive dorado were also landed, including a 20lb fat female which proved to be the biggest dorado of the week, and more “size XL” fish which took classic streamers as floating flies on surface.

Due to weather and water conditions, which were not warm enough for ideal “black plate” activity, we didn’t get pacù this time.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 15, August 30 to September 6

This week Sécure Lodge hosted a team of six guests, five of them from USA and one from Argentina.

The weather conditions remained quite cool, keeping the water temperature under the normal average for this time in the season. The river level stayed very low and clear, providing both challenging and pretty active scenery in both the upper and the lower sections. All the beats gave us consistent opportunities all week long, from the first day through to the last day; mostly with dorado of all sizes which grabbed topwater flies in runs, heads of pools, and stalking places.

Due to the water temperature, which was not warm enough, pacù were elusive and very shy at the moment of deciding whether or not to eat flies. Despite the conditions, some pacù ate and won the fight, while others were landed on the shore in the middle section upstream, including a massive 20lbblack plate.

The highlights of the week were the awesome situations that everyone got on surface-eating fish, with medium and big golden dorado sucking floating patterns; sometimes sipping it in slow motion like an astute brown trout, and sometimes attacking like a huge white shark.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 14, August 23 – 30

Our week featured four guests: a fisherman from Alaska and a family—a mother and two boys—from California. The week began with a massive cold front coming from the south, which made the fishing slow as the temperature in the water dropped considerably. Due to the weather conditions, the pacù—much more sensitive than dorado and yatorana to this sort of weather—didn’t appear. But despite that cold front (which was very unusual for this time of the season), increasing temperature in the final two days gave us great chances with all sizes of golden gifts, including two big ones which exploded 40lb. fluorocarbon and won the fights. Beyond that, more nice yellows were stranded on the beaches, completing the week’s experience with an excellent ending.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 13, August 16 – 23

We shared the week’s fly-fishing adventure at Sècure Lodge with six guests: four of them from USA, one from Guyana, and another from the UK.

The fishing was slow in the beginning because the water temperature was low. When the weather conditions became warmer, the opportunities connecting with our three sport species—dorado, pacù, and yatorana—increased day after day, giving tight lines with fat fish stranded on the beaches.

With careful approaches, the right presentation, and accurate casts, the crystal-clear streams far above the outcamp gave everyone several situations and contacts with medium and large dorado as well as fat pacù, and we landed many of them on topwater flies.

Once more, the creeks showed the best version of themselves, offering us some amazing highlights with massive fish in super skinny waters.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 12, August 9 – 16

Chapter 12 at Sècure Lodge was headlined by seven guests, all of them from Texas: six friends hosted by Laurens “Lawsson” Brainard Fish IV. As a result of the storm at the very end of previous week, the first few days of fishing showed slow activity in all the beats, with muddy conditions and cold water and air temperatures. But after that, as the days began to warm, the connections and battles with fish of all sizes gave us great moments and stories with awesome highlights. We had an incredible day far up on Maniquicito Creek, with several dorados and a big yatorana hooked and landed, as well as a 24lb golden gift caught in a spot with super-fast water far up.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 10, August 2 – 9

This week in Sècure Lodge was shared with six guests, all of them from the USA: a family consisting of four members and another two friends.

This new adventure began with the river in a low level, warm weather and two big pacù stranded on the beach the first day. After that, rain appeared the second day, changing the game, giving better chances for the approach, and increasing the activity everywhere. These conditions found their pinnacle in the middle of the week, when the rain became strong enough to increase the level of water and get it a little bit dirty. At that moment, with fly rods in hand and the right choices about flies, the typical “extra bonus” offered as fish become more active gave to everyone the chance to play with all sizes of dorado, including two monsters which won both battles in awesome situations. One of the monsters exploded a fly line and the other—after taking a topwater fly in a tailout ten inches deep—blowing up 40lb fluorocarbon.

The outcamp enjoyed by the team of friends far up was very good as well, with some pacù lost and several dorado hooked, finishing a great week with yellow bullions for everybody.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 9, July 26 to August 2

This week we received five guests: three friends and a couple, all from USA. The weather was nice; comfortable for fishing, with cool and cloudy conditions almost every day. The rain didn’t appear, which meant the river remained low and very clear.

We used topwater flies in the lower section, getting dorado and yatorana on Titanic sliders and mouse imitations. In the upper and middle sections, as well as in the section far up, the fishermen landed dorado on classic streamers and topwater flies as well. The pacú game showed consistent activity, with several chances and fat black plates stranded on the beaches.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 8, July 19 to 26

This week we received a group hosted and with good temperatures but no rain, the water dropped and the fishing turned more technical. The regular beats had slower action but the camp waters turned on, giving us situations with pacú and dorado both days. We landed some medium-sized dorado and lost the battle with the pacú which preferred fruit imitations.

Ashahana Creek was the most productive water, giving us good chances with big dorado in skinny waters that unfortunately won the battle. Also in Ashahana, we landed a good sized pacú that took a long black dorado streamer.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 8, July 12 to 19

The seventh week of the season brought us three American and three Argentinian anglers.
Starting with cold waters which improved throughout the week, we focused the fishing on the feeding frenzies, waiting for packs of dorado looking for sabalo in shallow waters. The upper beats gave us good chances of catching big, big fish every day, and we were able to connect with and land some of them.

Maniquicito Creek also produced some fish, landing good sized dorado on GDGs. Anglers also experienced the outcamp, with the best results coming during the second day when many dorado were landed in feeding frenzies, including doubles hooked-up and some of the biggest fish of the week.

The week’s trophy was a 22lb. dorado landed by Pablo Della Lucia.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 7, July 5 to 12

This week Sécure Lodge hosted a group of four friends from Colombia, and we all had an amazing time. Our chapter six started off with a cold front which dropped both the air and water temperature. By midweek, thanks to continuous and stable low temps, the dorado slowly started feeding. We had opportunities waiting for some feeding frenzies on the banks as well as fishing the lower sections casting big flies by the logs.

Being persistent and casting all day long under rain and wind finally paid off, with the team landing good-sized dorado in the 8 and 16lb. range in the lower beats. Despite the low water temperature, we found pacú in the deeper pools with fruit imitation as well as dark, short flies.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 5, June 28 to July 5

Our fifth week started with a cold front which lasted four days. Fishing activity dropped due to the dropping water temperature and the dorado weren’t sitting in fast water structures. The lower beat was the most productive in the “cachuelas” section, as a good pack of hungry dorado were smashing sabalo against the banks. Both Maniquicito and Ashahana Creeks gave us good chances as well, with feeding frenzies and dorado in shallow waters.

The last two days of the week brought warmer days and the activity started turning on, as we landed four of the biggest fish of the week including an 18lb beauty landed by Michael Domeier.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 4, June 21 to 28

This week Sécure Lodge hosted a group of five anglers from different parts of the world: Singapore, the Netherlands, and the USA were part of our week number four.

We began with cooler and higher water due to the rains of the last week. We fished the upper sections as the water conditions improved more quickly there—the dorado started moving near the shores, pushing us to fish shallow waters with floating lines. By midweek with temperatures more regular, fishing activity turned on and we found a good amount of fish in the main river as well as the tributaries.

With clear water conditions, both creeks and the camp were very active throughout the week, giving the anglers many opportunities with good sized dorado and pacú.
Maniquicito Creek gave us the biggest fish of the week, as we landed two 20-pounders in skinny riffles.

The lower section also started fishing well as a medium-sized migratory fish run moved up.
At the end of the week with the air temperature dropping due to a small cold front, the dorado kept moving around and even chasing sábalo in shallow waters, where we hooked up some big fish that won the battle this time.

Secure Lodge, Aardvark McLeod

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 3, June 14 to 21

On our third week, Sécure Lodge hosted a group of six American anglers coming for the first time.
At the beginning, two days of heavy rains helped the river to rise enough to bring a run of sabalo to the upper part. Dorado were very active during those days, and we had many good-sized fish landed on top water flies such as poppers and GDG.

By midweek—and just for one day—the water turned dirty and the fish felt it, slowing down and resting in deeper areas. Right after, with dropping and clearing water, they came back. Feeding frenzies on the banks almost everywhere gave the anglers the chance to experience one of the most exciting fishing situations: dorado smashing sabalo in 10” of water.

At the end of the week, the rains appeared one more time and the river flooded; this time without sediment so the activity didn’t turn off. We landed many including three of the biggest fish of the week. Tim Becker landed the biggest of the week—a 20lb popper eater—in one of the last casts, right in the home pool before going back home.

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 2, June 7 to 14

We hosted a group of six anglers, four Canadians coming for their fourth jungle trip, a Bolivian for the third, and one American living his first experience with dorado, on week two of our season here at Secure Lodge.

The week began with very well, and with a run of “mojarras” (small baitfish) the dorado turned very active, with the group landing good-sized fish in the upper and lower sections. Due to the increase of temperatures in both air and water, the pacú also showed up, giving us the chance to strand a good number on the shores.

At the end of the week anglers fished in both creeks, giving us the two biggest fish of the week: a 22lb. dorado and an 18lb pacú.

Secure Lodge, Bolivia 2024 fishing reports, Aardvark McLeod

Secure Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 1, June 1 to 7

Secure Lodge opened the doors to a new 2024 season, receiving a hosted group of seven European anglers.

The week started off with cold water and low air temperature due to a cold front. The fish felt it, slowing down and staying in the deepest areas. Throughout the week conditions improved and the dorado became more active, in both the upper and lower sections. Maniquicito Creek also gave us multiple chances with big dorado, some of them coming up to the surface to take top water flies.

Anglers enjoyed experiencing the camp waters, landing good sized dorado and having lot of action. The biggest fish of the week was an 18-pound dorado landed by Keyvan Pirouz.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports, 13 to 20 September

Heavy rain at the beginning of the week gave life to the rivers, with the jungle giving us very good chances in all the rivers during the first three days of the week. After three days of high water the rivers began to clear and return to their level, at which time the fish usually lower their activity until the rivers are stable again.

During the second half of the week, with high temperatures and low waters, the fishing was a little more technical. We still were given some chances every day where we managed to capture good dorado and also some pacù in the structures of the Sécure River.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports, 6 to 13 September

The weather was good throughout the week, with high temperatures during the day and comfortable nights to sleep. River levels were low, which made fishing a little more difficult due to the clear water and smaller places that make fishing much more technical.

Both the Agua Negra and the lower Sécure gave us the best opportunities for dorados and pacù, where we managed to land some very good ones while others won the battle and escaped during the fight.

On the last day of the week the weather changed with some storms and rain around, which caused the dorado and the pacù to activate, and they gave us very good opportunities.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 15, 30 August to 6 September

Last week we fished with four great friends from the USA: Scott, John, Chris, and Carl. The weather was good throughout the week, with sunny days and pleasant nights to sleep.

At the beginning of the week, the water in the Agua Negra and Sécure River was still a little cold but regardless, the rivers gave us some good chances for good-sized dorado. By the middle of the week the temperature began to rise and we saw much more activity for pacù and we had many good chances for them on mouse pattern flies.

The biggest dorado of the week was landed by Carl in the Agua Negra, who also lost an even bigger one the last day of the week.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 14, 23 to 30 August

Last week we fished with two great friends from the USA, Whitney and Steve, and Carlos from Argentina. After a cold front without rain at the beginning of the week the flow and temperature of the rivers dropped, which made the fishing in the Agua Negra and Chimoro a little slower. That said, we had some good chances for dorado, but not for pacù and yatorana. The Sécure River gave us the best catches of the week and good chances for more dorado which attacked the fly but we couldn’t land. By the end of the week we could see more pacù activity due to the rise in temperature, mainly in the low Sécure. The largest fish of the week was an 18lb. dorado caught by Whitney by fishing structures in the main river.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 13, 16 to 23 August

Last week we were visited by our friend Germano, who visited us for the third time bringing from Switzerland three great fishermen, Marco, Heinz, and Martín.

The weather was good throughout the week with sunny days and cool nights. We were able to make our outcamps in the Agua Negra River, where the chances were very good for dorado, pacu, and yatorana.

Some windy days caused the pacù and yatorana to rise to the surface eating leaves and fruits that fell from the trees and we were able to capture very good specimens.

The main Secure River was a little slow, but still gave us some beautiful dorado and good chances of pacù.

We also walked our Chimoro River where fishing is technical due to the size of the pools. Walking along paths, we get to the top where we get some really good dorado and big yatorana.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 12, 9 to 16 August

Last week we were visited by four good fishermen from the USA: James, Erick, Cris, and Jim. The weather was good but a little cold during the first half of the week, and the rivers were gradually improving after a large flood had dirtied most of our rivers the previous week.

The fishing was a little slow during at first as the water was a little cold and high, but improved by the end of the week. Most of our chances at fish were in the Sècure, fishing logs, structures, and fast water.

The Agua Negra also gave us some very good chances, and it was there we landed one of the biggest dorado of the week, a perfect 20lb fish captured by Jim.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 11, 3 to 9 August

Last week we were visited by five friends from the USA: Joe Vacante and two sets of brothers: Michael and David, and John and Rick.

The weather was not very favourable in the middle of the week when we were hit by a cold front with a lot of rain which—for a moment was very good—but complicated the rivers for the rest of the week. On the day of the first rain, the fishing was excellent in some of the rivers, giving us very good catches of dorado and large yatorana.

We did three camps on the Agua Negra River, which gave us great catches of pacù with fruit imitations and some nice chances for big dorados, which unfortunately we couldn’t land. The main river (Sècure) still had dirty water at the end of the week , but gave us some good catches of dorado prospecting shallow riffles where we could see the tails while they chased sábalos.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 10, 26 July to 3 August

The tenth week of the season gave us the chance to fish with Tom, his sons, and his good friend John. The weather was good throughout the week and we could fish all our beats normally.

The Sécure gave us most of the catches for dorado and some pacú when fishing the log structure. The Agua Negra, where we made three camps, gave us good chances of pacú and some yatorana with dry flies, though unfortunately we could not achieve the landing of big dorado.

The Chimoro also had its good days where we managed to catch two surubi with a fly, which is not very common since they are fish that are rarely found hunting.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 9, 19 to 26 July

Last week we fished with five anglers from Italy and Switzerland, two of whom fished with us in 2022. The weather was good throughout the week and we were able to do three camps in the Agua Negra, where we had some good chances for dorado with mouse imitation and streamers.

The Chimoro River also gave us some good chances and we managed to get a very nice dorado and several yatoranas with dry flies. The main Sécure River was a little slower than usual, but still gave us the chance to get five large pacú on the logs and a great dorado of more than 18lb.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 8, 12 to 19 July

The eighth week of the season gave us the chance to fish with two friends from the United States and two anglers who travelled from Japan to share a week with us. The weather was good throughout the week, although still a little cold due to the previous week.

The fishing was good all week, and we dedicated most of the days to fishing our main Sécure River where we had very good shots at great dorado, both at the top and at the bottom sections. Most of the angling chances were for dorados since the pacú were a little quieter due to the low water temperature.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 7, 5 to 12 July

Last week was one of the coldest of the season so far due to a southern front that arrived at the beginning of the week. The fishing in the tributaries such as the Chimoro and the Agua Negra was a bit slower due to the drop in water temperature, but even so we had very good luck fishing structures in the Sécure River since the water took a little longer to cool down.
The rains did not affect the level of the rivers, which allowed us to get more than 15 dorado and two pacú fishing sticks, and even having several chances for more fish.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 6, June 28 to July 5

In the sixth week of the season we welcomed four friends who came from the USA (even Alaska!) to live the jungle experience. Jordan, Evan, Andrew, and Peter enjoyed an unforgettable week being able to enjoy all our rivers.

The first few days the weather was still cold, but the temperature rose during the week. Angling chances were very good throughout the week both in the main river and the tributaries, where we had many good opportunities and landed five big pacú and some really good dorado.

The last days of the week brought the highest water temperatures, which activated the fish. It was then that we landed and had the greatest chances of the biggest dorado of the week.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 5, June 21 to 28

The fifth week of the season gave us the chance to meet four great fishermen from the United States. Joe, Mike, Kurt, and O.C., who had already fished the previous week in another of our lodges and completed their adventure in the jungle with two camps in the Agua Negra.

The weather was somewhat unstable during the week with some rains and some cold days, but we were still able to spend two nights in our upper camp in the Agua Negra, where we were able to catch three big pacú, some medium-size dorado, and two nice yatorana.

The Chimoro River and the Secure also gave us good chances in the middle of the week, where we also landed two more pacú and several medium dorado as well as some small ones.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 4, June 14 to 21

The fourth week was the best of the season so far. Heavy rains increased the level of all the rivers, giving us incredible chances with hunting dorado, pacú, and also some surubi. During the first days of the week the main Sécure River gave us very good catches. Then with the rains, a big flood arrived but the fishing in the Agua Negra and Chimoro River continued to be excellent.

By the end of the week landed several dorado above 20lb, five large pacú, two surubi, and some nice yatoranas.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 3, June 7 to 14

The third week of the season, after having had a run of dorado and sábalo the previous days, we had to look for the fish a little more upstream in the tributaries. Again, Agua Negra and Chimoro were the stars of the week.

Spending a night in the Upper Agua Negra, Eduardo and his daughter Mercedes enjoyed our out-camp and had many good chances of dorados and pacú.

The weather was good throughout the week with sunny days and pleasant nights. By the end of the week, we managed to land four big pacú, three dorado over 12lb as well as more than ten small and medium-size dorado, and some yatorana in the Chimoro River.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2024 season fishing reports week 2, June 1 to 7

The second week of the season gave us the chance to fish with four friends from Montana: Jo, Josh, Aron, and Jeff.

At the beginning of the week, we had a great arrival of sábalo and minnows which gave us the chance to fish very good dorados, four large pacú, and several yatoranas following the migration and taking advantage of the dorados feeding.

We were also able to do two camps in the Agua Negra, where the fishing opportunities were very good. There we also managed to catch some very good dorado and even more pacú.
