Pluma Lodge – Heli-fishing – 2025 season fishing reports, July 5-12

This week brought excellent weather and ideal conditions for fly fishing—plenty of sun, comfortable temperatures, and consistent action.

Floating flies, especially mouse patterns and hoppers, were highly effective, adding excitement and visual takes to the experience.

We were thrilled to welcome anglers from both the United States and Korea, fishing as part of our helifishing program. The remote access offered by the helicopter allowed us to reach untouched waters and deliver memorable fishing experiences.

It was a fantastic week overall, with strong numbers, healthy fish, and plenty of golden memories made on the water.

Pluma Lodge – Heli-fishing, 2025 season fishing reports, June 21-28

We had the pleasure of hosting 14 guests from the United States this week at Pluma Lodge. It turned out to be a fantastic week of fishing, with a strong presence of dorado and plenty of pacu.

The sábalo migration is still going strong, and a few days of light rain helped bring even more baitfish into the system — which in turn attracted impressive numbers of juvenile dorado.

Surface action was the highlight of the week. Many fish were landed on mouse patterns, dry flies, and foam bugs. With active feeding, rising water, and hungry fish, the conditions came together to deliver an unforgettable fishing experience.

Pluma Lodge – Heli-fishing, 2025 season fishing reports, June 14-21

This past week brought excellent fishing conditions, with just a touch of rain to keep the jungle fresh. A strong migration of sábalo (South American shad) arrived in force, triggering aggressive feeding behaviour from the dorado.

We hosted four anglers from the United States who enjoyed nonstop action on the water. The dorado bite was consistent, energetic, and delivered plenty of unforgettable moments.

All in all, it was a fantastic week at Pluma — great weather, active fish, and the kind of jungle experience that keeps anglers coming back for more.

Pluma Lodge – Heli-fishing, 2025 season fishing reports, June 8-14

The heli-fishing season launched on Sunday and delivered an unforgettable seven-day jungle adventure for guests from Finland and the United States.

Venturing into the remote, crystal-clear waters of the Pluma and Itirizama Rivers, anglers encountered aggressive pacú and hard-hitting golden dorado. The rivers are in prime condition — clean, vibrant, and perfect for sight fishing and explosive strikes.

Once again, the helicopter-supported programme proved invaluable, providing exclusive access to untouched stretches of river deep within the Bolivian Amazon. Every hookup brought unforgettable moments — strong takes, aerial acrobatics, and jungle memories to last a lifetime.

A truly epic beginning to another wild season at Pluma Lodge!

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, September 26 to October 3

Last week we hosted three friends from the United Kingdom, Paul, David and Stephen, and another David who joined us from the United States. The weather was excellent, and fishing conditions couldn’t have been better. We were able to fish all our rivers, the Chimoro, Agua Negra, and the main Sécure river.

We were able to explore almost all of our rivers with most of the action happening in the Agua Negra and Chimoro creek. Due to some rain earlier in the week, the main river, the Sécure, was slightly off-colour, which led us to focus more on the tributaries where the fishing turned out to be outstanding.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, September 19 to 26

They enjoyed an unforgettable week immersed in nature, surrounded by spectacular birdlife (a shared passion of theirs) and exceptional fishing for dorado, pacú, and yatorana across all our rivers. The weather couldn’t have been better, providing perfect conditions and great fishing every single day.

It was a magical experience filled with adventure, wildlife, and the pure spirit of the Bolivian jungle — truly the perfect way to celebrate 20 years of love and shared adventures

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, September 12 to 19

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Charles and Kurt, joined by their longtime fishing partners Ward and Bernie, for another unforgettable adventure deep in the Bolivian jungle.

From the very first day, the rivers delivered. Most of the week blessed us with clear skies and perfect fishing weather, with just a brief passing storm that added a bit of color to the water — but did little to slow down the action.

Across the Sécure and Agua Negra, powerful pacú put every angler’s skills to the test, while the undeniable highlight of the week was the capture of a massive golden dorado exceeding 10 kilos — an unforgettable trophy and a moment of pure adrenaline.

Bolivia, Tsimane 2025 season fishing reports, Agua Negra Lodge, Aardvark McLeod

In the smaller jungle creeks, the group found fast-paced action with medium dorado and aggressive yatorana, and even a few explosive surface takes on mouse patterns that made every cast an adventure.

Between the laughter, the challenges, and the triumphs on the water, it was a week that perfectly captured what makes these rivers — and the friendships forged along them — truly special.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, September 5 to 12

This past week we had the pleasure of welcoming four great friends from Switzerland, who traveled all the way to the Bolivian jungle in search of a one-of-a-kind fly-fishing adventure.

The week began with some challenging weather, as heavy rains had recently pushed the rivers up and left the headwaters slightly off-colour. But day by day, conditions improved steadily, and the fishing turned increasingly productive—delivering excellent opportunities throughout the week.

Bolivia, Tsimane 2025 season fishing reports, Agua Negra Lodge, Aardvark McLeod

Since the headwaters remained a bit murky, there was no need for overnight camps. Instead, we focused our efforts on the Sécure, the lower Agua Negra, and the Chimoro, which all fished remarkably well and provided our guests with steady action and unforgettable moments on the water.

All in all, it was an outstanding week—a perfect mix of adventure, breathtaking scenery, and the rewarding thrill of connecting with powerful jungle gamefish in truly pristine waters.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, August 29 – September 5

Last week, we had the joy of welcoming a wonderful family from South Africa, joined by their friend Drew. Their stay with us was truly special—blessed with mostly sunny skies and just a touch of rain, which only made the fishing even more exciting. In fact, those cooler days turned into some of the best action of the week, with the last few days delivering unforgettable moments on the water.

Bolivia, Tsimane, 2025 season fishing reports, Agua Negra, Aardvark McLeod

Our guests experienced the thrill of landing countless dorado, plenty of yatorana, and even a few remarkable pacú. Thanks to perfect river conditions, we explored every corner of our waters without needing overnight camps, making the experience even more comfortable.

It was a week filled with exceptional fishing, stunning nature, and incredible camaraderie—a perfect combination that created memories to last a lifetime.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, August 23 – 29

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting four great anglers from The USA and Hawaii — Ben, Todd, Darrell, and Jared. It was an unusual week for late August, as a strong cold front brought rain and rising rivers. Fortunately, the tributaries and the Agua Negra stayed clear, although the drop in water temperature made the fishing a bit more challenging.

Even so, the results were excellent. We set up two camps on the Upper Agua Negra, both of which were highly productive. The Chimoro delivered one of its best days of the season, offering spectacular sight fishing with large dry flies. Casting into small waters with big rocks and countless pockets full of dorado and yatorana made for an unforgettable experience.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, August 15 – 22

Following the incredible run of sábalos we mentioned last week, a second massive wave arrived this week—turning it into one of the very best so far!

We were thrilled to host Marcos, Kip, Jason, and Perry, who shared an unforgettable adventure with us. The rivers were in perfect condition, and we made the most of every moment on the water.

At the Agua Negra, two camps delivered fantastic action, producing excellent dorados and powerful pacu. Meanwhile, the Sécure River stole the spotlight. For more than three consecutive days, we followed the sálalo migration and were rewarded with nonstop dorado action and outstanding results.

By week’s end, the group had tallied countless dorados—including several true monsters—along with some exceptional yatoranas and three giant pacu.

It was a week filled with explosive strikes, unforgettable moments, and memories our guests will carry forever from this wild, untamed paradise.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, August 08 – 15

We had the pleasure of hosting a wonderful family from Chile this past week, and what an unforgettable experience it was! Luis, Juanjo, and their children, Chiqui and Pepe, enjoyed perfect weather with warm, sunny days and crisp, refreshing nights—ideal for resting after exciting days on the water.

The rivers were in excellent condition, with slightly low levels but full of energy and activity from dorado and yatorana. We also had the chance to set up two incredible camps in Agua Negra, where fishing opportunities were outstanding on both days.

While the pacu were a bit quieter—likely due to the cooler night time temperatures—the overall fishing was nothing short of fantastic, and the atmosphere was filled with adventure, laughter, and memorable moments.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, August 01 – 08

Last week blessed us with excellent weather, low water levels, and plenty of fish activity across the rivers. Both groups had the chance to explore every stretch of our waters—including the outcamp at the Agua Negra.

Fishing conditions were outstanding. Each day brought more than 20 small to medium dorado to hand, along with several thrilling encounters with true giants. Some of those big fish gave us unforgettable battles—though the river had the last word, and they slipped away.

The Agua Negra offered exciting pacu opportunities, and while many were spotted, only one was successfully landed. Meanwhile, the Chimoro delivered consistent action with solid dorado and some impressive yatorana, adding even more variety to the experience.

It was a week full of energy, challenges, and memorable moments.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, July 25 – August 01

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming back some dear friends of the lodge—Jamie and John, visiting from the States for their second time, and Bob, a true regular who has shared four seasons with us.

The weather was kind all week, and the fishing opportunities were just as generous. We spent most of our time exploring the Sécure River, along with nearby stretches of the Agua Negra and Chimoro. These waters delivered an incredible number of medium and smaller dorados, along with a few thrilling shots at true giants.

The largest dorados of the week came from the main Sécure River. However, the Agua Negra was where most of the action unfolded, with frenzies breaking out regularly. In every case, the smaller, lightning-fast dorados managed to snatch the fly before the big ones could strike—but that only added to the excitement and challenge.

Another week of friendship, adventure, and unforgettable moments on the water.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, July 18 – 25

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming four great friends from the United States—Mike, Jake, Rich, and Justin—for an unforgettable week of fishing, laughs, and adventure.

Perfect weather paired with clean rivers and ideal water levels set the stage for some truly outstanding fishing. The bite was consistent all week long, with the group landing 10 to 20 dorados per day—a testament to both the conditions and their skill on the water.

We spent most of our time exploring the tributaries on foot, and the rewards were well worth the walk. The Chimoro and Agua Negra creeks delivered in a big way, producing excellent pacu and beautiful dorados in tight, shallow waters—the kind of technical, close-quarters fishing we love.

These creeks continue to surprise us with their productivity and the sheer excitement they offer—sight fishing for powerful golden predators in crystal-clear, skinny water is as thrilling as it gets.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, June 27- July 04

The fourth week of the season brought excellent fishing, even though it turned out to be one of the coldest weeks we can remember. We had the pleasure of hosting four experienced anglers from Costa Rica, Scotland, and the United States.

Fishing remained solid throughout the week, with a mix of high-energy days and quieter ones due to a strong southern cold front that brought some rain and very low temperatures. Still, the quality of the fishing prevailed.

We managed to set up two camps on the Agua Negra, where we had great shots at dorados and landed some impressive pacu.

The Sécure River and Chimoro were the top performers, especially when targeting structures and riffles near the confluences.

Most of the big fish were caught in the lower Sécure, right at the junctions where the clear tributaries flow into the main river—classic spots that delivered once again.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, July 04-11

We were treated to perhaps the best weather of the season so far—bright sunny days and cool, refreshing nights, perfect for relaxing at the lodge and recharging for the next day’s adventures.

The rivers remained low and incredibly clear, making for exciting sight-fishing opportunities and excellent overall conditions. Most of the action happened on the main Sécure River, where fish were aggressively striking streamers around structure.

This week included two camp outings into the upper Agua Negra, where the scenery was spectacular and the fishing more technical due to the clear, low water. Even so, chances for success were strong, and spirits were high.

By week’s end, we had landed well over 100 dorado—mainly in the small to medium range, but we also had thrilling encounters with some real trophies that, true to dorado nature, got away!

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, June 20-27

The week started off in spectacular fashion, with thousands of sábalo migrating through every stretch of river — and dorado of all sizes making the most of the feast!

The first half of the week brought favourable weather. Thanks to the rains from the week before, the river levels remained high, and the fishing was excellent across the board.

Although the forecast didn’t allow us to run campouts as planned, the lower sections of the Agua Negra and Chimoro rivers still produced great action and solid catches.

Toward the end of the week, a southern front moved in, bringing colder temperatures and dropping river levels. Conditions got a bit tougher, but we still managed a good number of hookups — including some truly beautiful dorado.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, June 13-20

The second week of the season brought an impressive migration of mojarras and sábalo that lasted several days. Thanks to favourable rains and solid water levels, thousands of baitfish flooded the riverbanks, drawing in hungry dorado and making for an incredible week of fishing.

While the weather was a bit unstable, early rains had little impact on the rivers. It wasn’t until the final day that heavier rain caused some cloudiness and limited visibility. Still, the bulk of the week offered excellent conditions and plenty of hookups.

Most of the action came from the upper Agua Negra and the Chimoro River, but we also had productive fishing in the main Sécure River during periods of clearer water — with exciting feeding frenzies and strong dorado takes.

Agua Negra Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, June 7-13

The 2025 season kicked off with plenty of action, especially from small to mid-sized dorado across all our rivers. This kind of widespread activity hasn’t been seen in years — likely a result of the dry seasons we’ve experienced recently.

With rainfall returning to normal, the dorado migration seems to be back on track. Although midweek showers brought a brief drop in temperature, the rivers remained clear and fishable throughout all of our beats.

The week’s largest dorado and pacú were both landed in the Upper Agua Negra — a fantastic sign of what’s to come.

A strong and exciting start to the season!

Pluma Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, September 27 to October 4

This week at Tsimane delivered another unforgettable and action-packed fishing adventure.

We enjoyed fantastic dorado fishing, landing plenty of strong, medium-sized fish and a few truly impressive trophies that made for great photos — even if some of the giants managed to escape.

After two days of rain, the river level rose and the sábalo resumed their migration, bringing with them more juvenile dorado and keeping the action steady and exciting throughout the week.

The most productive patterns were light-coloured flies imitating sábalo, while dry flies mimicking jungle fruits and leaves produced spectacular surface takes from pacu and yatorana.

All our guests fully embraced the energy, adventure, and wild spirit that make Tsimane such a unique fly-fishing destination.

Pluma Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, June 28-July 5

This week brought a variety of fishing conditions, shaped largely by cooler water temperatures—especially during the early mornings. Some days started off slow, with dorados and other species showing less activity in the chilled flows. But as the sun rose and gradually warmed the water, the action picked up, leading to some truly rewarding late-morning and afternoon sessions.

Recent rains delivered a healthy push of water into the system, drawing in dorados, sábalos, and yatoranas into prime holding spots. While patience was definitely key at times, those who stayed focused were rewarded. Once the fish turned on, fly patterns like streamers and poppers proved highly effective.

We had the pleasure of welcoming guests from France and the UK, who got to experience both the quiet challenges and the adrenaline-filled highlights. The best bites often came under full sun, with several impressive dorados and yatoranas landed on the fly.

Fortunately, the water remained clear and clean, creating ideal fishing conditions across the system. The result was exceptional fishing, with medium to large golden dorado actively hunting in shallow bays, corners, and tailouts — offering a fun and steady game during the last two days.

Secure Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, August 22 to 29

We had the pleasure of hosting the 9th week at Sécure Lodge with a wonderful group of five guests from Argentina — four of them returning anglers.

The week brought unique challenges as a strong cold front moved in, bringing rain and unusually low temperatures. It turned out to be the coldest week of the season, both in the air and in the water. Even so, every angler had exciting chances and connections with dorado of all sizes, venturing far upriver and deep into the Maniquicito Creek. The fish responded well to classic streamers as well as topwater patterns, including GDGs, a variety of poppers, and even mouse imitations.

Pacú, being more sensitive to cold water, proved more elusive — but persistence paid off with two remarkable trophies. One of them was taken in a large, deep upstream pool under heavy rain, on a tiny fly specially designed for these “black plates,” creating a truly unforgettable moment.

As for the fishing, words can barely do justice… it was simply unbeatable! Midweek, a fresh run of sábaloss pushed into the upper Sécure, igniting explosive dorado action. Golden predators were ambushing in every imaginable scenario—crashing bait along sandy beaches, striking in shallow waters, and charging through submerged logs and structure downstream. Whether the migration was concentrated or scattered, the action was nonstop, with hook ups on both classic streamers and thrilling topwater flies. Foam bugs and mouse imitations produced some unforgettable surface strikes from these fierce yellow hunters.

By week’s end, our guests had landed over 400 dorados—yes, more than four hundred!—not counting the countless battles that were lost or fish that outsmarted us.
It was another remarkable week in our sacred waters, an unforgettable chapter in this one-of-a-kind hidden paradise we’re privileged to share.

Secure Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, August 08 – 15

Last week at Sécure Lodge was truly special. The week started off with cool air and water temperatures that held steady for most of the trip, until the final day when things warmed up—setting the stage for an epic close.

From start to finish, the experience was filled with unforgettable highlights: spectacular fishing, breathtaking wildlife, stunning jungle scenery, and inspiring encounters with the local native communities. It was the pure essence of the Sécure adventure.

Every rod connected with big fish, including two massive pacú landed right on the beach. Anglers also explored the famous creeks—Ashahanna and Maniquicito—and returned with thrilling stories. Among the most memorable moments: watching giant golden dorados attack a three pound sábalo just a couple yards from the canoe, fighting with wild intensity.

Topwater action was on fire, both upstream and in the lower sections. Beyond the creeks and regular beats, we pushed farther than usual on foot—and that bold move paid off with extraordinary encounters, culminating in the fish of the week: a magnificent 22lb golden dorado.

This week we welcomed six wonderful guests—two from New Zealand and the rest from across the United States—who shared an unforgettable adventure in the Bolivian Amazon.

The weather stayed consistently cool, creating comfortable conditions for both anglers and fish. Dorado and yatorana were especially active, providing steady action throughout the week. While the slightly cooler water temperatures kept the pacu less visible, we still had some spectacular encounters with massive “black plates” cruising beneath the canopy, feeding on leaves in their classic deep-pool homes.

As for golden dorados, every angler had their chance at powerful fish in both the upper and lower sections of the river. The crown jewel of the week was a stunning 22lb female dorado landed early on—an unforgettable trophy. From explosive feeding frenzies to sight-fishing for cruisers, from covering hidden structures to stalking fish in crystal-clear headwaters that eventually flow into the Amazon, our guests experienced the full spectrum of dorado behaviour.

Another week of action, challenge, and discovery at Sécure—proof that every trip here tells its own remarkable story.

Secure Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, July 25 – August 01

This week’s adventure was led by six close friends from the USA—all biologists—experiencing, for the very first time, the thrill of targeting our three iconic sport species on the fly.

The start couldn’t have been better: two spectacular pacus landed in the upper section, along with steady chances at medium to large golden dorados. Despite the cool weather, the fishing quality never faltered. On Sunday, a gentle rain lifted the river just a few inches—and those few inches made all the difference. The bite exploded, with dorados of every size feeding aggressively across the system.

By week’s end, the group had landed an impressive 180 fish on the beaches, plus countless strikes and battles where the river claimed victory. Highlights included a 16lb golden dorado and a 15lb pacu.

Secure Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, July 18 – 25

This week saw crystal clear conditions and topwater action. Our six anglers from the US enjoyed perfect conditions to case golden dreams.

The weather remained beautifully stable throughout the week—cool, refreshing nights followed by sunny, fishy days. River conditions were a tale of two zones: crystal-clear waters up top and slightly murkier currents downstream, thanks to fine dust from minor tributaries. The varied clarity added an exciting challenge, pushing us to adapt our game—casting to submerged logs, big timber, and prospecting deep holes and tight channels for explosive takes.

Fishing was on point across all beats. We found dorado of all sizes, both on classic streamers and on topwater bugs, with small to mid-size imitations delivering thrilling surface strikes. Both creeks were on fire too, offering incredible moments with fat, aggressive fish that rewarded stealthy approaches and laser-precise presentations. Catch of the week was a 20lb dorado, a true brute that put on a proper show.

Week three at Sécure was truly special, shared with a wonderful group of seven guests: two friends from South Africa, an angler from California, and an Argentine family of four.

The weather played in our favor—sunny, cool days created the perfect backdrop for a magical fishing experience. The river remained crystal clear throughout the week, with a slight rise in water level after a light rain on the last day. That touch of rainfall sparked a flurry of activity, leading to a thrilling grand finale on the water!

We found plenty of dorado and yatorana in both the upper and lower sections, and used a dynamic mix of classic streamers and topwater flies to great success. While the cooler water made pacú a bit more elusive, we still managed to entice a few—some even took seed imitations and gave us epic battles!

The highlight? A massive 17lb dorado that crowned an unforgettable week of fishing, camaraderie, and wild jungle beauty.

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of four guests from the United States, all of whom were experiencing their first dorado fishing adventure.

The week kicked off with cool, sunny weather, and temperatures rose steadily, creating comfortable conditions for fishing. The water levels remained stable and crystal clear, providing ideal visibility throughout the system.

We covered a wide range of beats along the Sécure River, venturing deep into the lower section and also exploring untouched waters in the headwaters—an exciting opportunity so early in the season.

Throughout the week, the river delivered nonstop action, with plenty of hook-ups and dynamic fishing for everyone. Each angler landed beautiful golden dorado, and as is often the case in this amazing fishery, a few true giants managed to escape the net.

The highlight of the week was a stunning 17lb dorado.

Secure Lodge – 2025 season fishing reports, June 27-July 04

The first week of the 2025 season at Sécure Lodge began with cool weather—cloudy skies, light rains, and low temperatures both in the air and in the water. Despite the chilly start, spirits were high and expectations even higher.

Thanks to a strong rainy season during the past summer, the river was in excellent condition. Water levels were high and crystal clear throughout the entire system—from the main channel to both creeks, Ashahana and Maniquicito. The overall fishing situation was truly promising, with consistent action across all beats. Everyone experienced plenty of strikes, and golden dorados were landed daily in solid numbers.

The best moment came on the final day, when temperatures started to rise, triggering aggressive takes and giving us great shots at dorados of all sizes. The highlight of the week was a stunning 18lb female, landed right on the beach—an absolute beauty and the biggest fish of the week.
