Northern Scandinavia stands out in Europe as one of the few remaining wilderness areas, largely inaccessible for much of the year except to the most resilient adventurers. However, during the summer, this remote region transforms, opening up its rivers, once frozen over, to abundant fishing opportunities. Northern Sweden, in particular, boasts some of Europe’s most exceptional fishing grounds, especially renowned for species like grayling, trout, and pike. We’ve just received this end of season report rounding up all the action this summer.
2026 Season wrap up
As we look back on the summer at Tjuonajokk Lodge, we feel incredibly grateful for another season filled with great fishing, good conversations, long days by the river and plenty of memorable moments around the lodge.
The season started with low temperatures and lower water than usual, but conditions were still good with a quite cool summer. We were fortunate to have stable water levels throughout the summer, and the fishing kept us busy all the way to the end, with good hatches, beautiful grayling, pike, perch and some very nice trout coming to the net.
Dry flies, nymphs and streamers all had their moments, and there was always another pool, another rise or another fish to chase.
But, as always, Tjuonajokk is about much more than the fishing.
It is the helicopter ride into the mountains, the first coffee by the river, the dinner, the sound of the mountains outside the cabin, stories shared over a drink and the feeling of being completely away from everyday life.
