Tropic Star guests catch more fish in June, July, August & September than any other time of year so why not fly West in search of that fish of a lifetime in 2020? 150 miles South East of Panama City in the pristine and remote Darien Jungle, Tropic Star Lodge has more fishing world records to it’s name than any other. With the reef only 20 minutes away, you spend more time fishing and less time travelling.

The waters off Tropic Star Lodge have the widest variety of species during summer season and the fishing is fantastic. It’s BLUE MARLIN season and offshore the fishing is on fire with boats returning to the dock with flags flying and coolers full.  Guests catch and release blue marlin and sailfish. Dorado, wahoo, and yellowfin tuna (many over 100 lbs) are brought back for the chefs to prepare and present to guests.

It’s not all about offshore! The fishing inshore offers rod- bending action with plenty of Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper, Alamaco Jacks and African Pompano.

Not fishing?

Fishing aside, Tropic Star has kayaks from which to explore the bay and surrounding coastline, massages are available or you can float time away in the freshwater pool. Take a panga boat ride to a pristine white sand beach where you can swim, snorkel or just relax. Hike the jungle trails up the mountainside and soak in the spectacular topside view. Nearby Indian villages can be visited and you can purchase, or trade for, hand woven baskets, wood and tagua carvings, beads and other Indian crafts.

Whale watching has become a popular experience with July-September marking the peak season for their migration trek. If all of that is just too energetic, relax on your porch and watch what is going out around you. Weaver birds make their nests in the swaying palm trees while tropical butterflies and brightly coloured hummingbirds feed throughout the gardens.

It doesn’t just have to be about the fishing.  With a few extra days, open your eyes to explore further. From the air, the ships of the Panama Canal appear suddenly, the colors and massive bodies of the vessels mystify the eye. Their captains’ voyage from afar to the waters where the Atlantic greets the Pacific. For a traveler, landing in the metropolis of Panama City is like peering into a kaleidoscope. Turn each degree, and you’ll find a stunning arrangement of architecture or a sweeping horizon. But choose to wander outside the city a jaunt away and you’ll find wild country capable of capturing the soul.
