We are delighted to see international guests salmon fly fishing in Norway from the beginning of the season this year. Snow levels were very good through the winter leading to the sort of spring conditions that we would expect for many rivers. So far the season has been going well with good fish showing up on the major rivers. Read more about specific rivers below.

The first group of the season were greeted by fabulous conditions with the Gaulfossen dropping to below 200 cubics last week to allow the fresh running fish up above Storen. Starting brilliantly with a fish on the first day, the week struggled to get going after that with several fish lost and seemingly quite shy fish with delicate takes. What a difference a few days makes though, the new week has brought with it more positive takes and already eight fish landed.

We have high hopes for the remainder of this week as well as the productive July weeks.

Norwegian Fly Fisher’s Club

Catch in June: 55
Largest Fish: 15 kg (33 lbs)
Average size: 8.62 kg (19 lbs)

In June the NFC waters have got off to a good start with good numbers of fish and a great average size, far greater than the river average. The lodge benefits from have beats both above and below Gaulfossen waterfall and they started to encounter fish virtually from the start of the season.

As last week progressed we saw more of the NFC beat producing fish as the water dropped to levels condusive for fish travelling above Storen.

The Orkla

Largest Fish: 23.6 kg (52 lbs)

Being much further north in Norway the salmon season takes longer to get going, with many river opening towards the end of June and July. The Oldero Lodge welcomed their first guests of the season last week and two fish were landed with an average weight of over 30 lbs. Water remains high, but hopefully as summer takes hold the levels will begin to drop back opening up more of the lodge’s favourite salmon lies.

The biggest fish so on the river is still just over 30 lbs but with big fish running all weeks of the season we expect this to be beaten a number of times over in 2022.

If you are able to get away last minute we do have an opening from the 10th July, a prime week on the river.

Last chance availability:

10 – 17 July (1 rod): price on request
