Fishing for sea trout and brown trout on the revered Rio Gallegos and Gallegos Chico spring creek
Bella Sofia Lodge provides private access to over 40 miles of the Rio Gallegos along with 14 miles of the Gallegos Chico spring creek. While the fishing can be challenging, the rewards of sizeable fish are well worth the effort.
Sea Trout and Brown Trout on one lovely estancia
The Rio Gallegos is one of Argentina’s premier sea trout rivers and this lovely lodge has plenty of premier pools within its waters. Fishing just six rods a week, fishermen can enjoy plenty of fresh water, in fact few other lodges in the region can claim to provide around six miles of water per angler. The sea trout here average nine pounds and double handed rods provide the best chance to hook one of these lively specimens. Most of the fishing is wading in reasonably shallow water. Access is easy with roads just a few metres away from the river bank ensuring little time is wasted back and forth. The Gallegos Chico Spring is full of good sized brown trout and its waters provide excellent sight fishing and dry fly fishing opportunities for visiting anglers. The fish here tend to average three pounds. The lodge guides are highly knowledgeable and led by host Guy Soubra, they are also experts on casting techniques ensuring guests have the best chance to land fish. Visitors fish two anglers per guide.
A gem on the Rio Gallegos
Bella Sofia Lodge accommodates anglers in four single occupancy rooms and one large double occupancy bedroom. The living area offers a fireplace and cosy seating area. There is also a sunroom which has lovely views over the garden and is where drinks are served before dinner. Facilities are completed with a heated wader room. The lodge provides itself on fresh, delicious food, with dinner comprising quality steaks, lamb and venison along with soup and salads. Before setting off for a day on the river anglers are fortified with a range of homemade bread, local marmalades and a choice of egg dishes.

Bella Sofia Lodge is approximately 60 miles upstream of the town of Rio Gallegos in Patagonia’s Santa Cruz province, and around an hour’s drive from Roe Gallegos airport.
