Deep in the heart of Colombia’s rugged wilderness, the lodge is set within a sprawling 14,000-hectare jungle sanctuary along the Orinoco River. It’s a perfect base from which to cast a line into the untamed currents of the Orinoco River, pursuing elusive payara and majestic peacock bass. Beyond the rivers, the lodge has access to eight untouched lagoons where, amid a vibrant tapestry of dense jungle foliage, fishermen can enjoy little visited waters.
Expert local fishing guides lead anglers to prime spots, using their deep understanding of the waters to ensure plenty of opportunities to hook up with these exciting game fish.
Colombia fly fishing itinerary
This exciting sample itinerary combines the luxurious lodge with a few nights at sister camp, Lagoons Base Camp, a safari-style set-up that offers ‘glamping charm’ in the jungle. The six-day fishing expedition into the heart of the Colombian Amazon is perfect for adventurous anglers and nature lovers alike. It includes four days targeting peacock bass in crystal clear jungle lagoons and two days of high adrenaline fishing for payara in the rapids of the legendary Orinoco River. It’s not just an angling adventure but a journey into the heart of the Amazon.
Day 1 – Arrive into Bogota
The journey begins with arrival into this bustling capital city, full of history, culture and local gastronomy.
Day 2 – Orinoco River Lodge, payara in the rapids
This morning you take an early flight to Inirida, from which it is a scenic four-hour boat ride along the Inirida and Guaviare Rivers. On the way you pass through the Estrella Fluvial de Inirida, a natural wonder where three great rivers meet. You stay the night at the luxurious Orinoco River Lodge which is a great spot to recharge for the night before heading onward to your fishing adventures.
Days 3 to 6 – Lagoons Base Camp, peacock bass in the jungle
Today you move to the safari style Lagoons Base Camp which is set up right next to the lagoons. From this lovely wilderness setting anglers target the combative peacock bass in exclusive rivers and lagoons. Famous for their vibrant colours and strength, peacock bass provide thrilling fights, leaping clear of the water and offering an adrenaline fuelled challenge. You are likely to encounter fish of anything between 10 and 23lb.
Days 7 and 8 – Orinoco River Lodge
You head back to Orinoco River Lodge where you spend the next three nights. Here the magnificent Orinoco River takes centre stage and is where you have two days dedicated to fishing for the thrilling payara. This lightening fast hunter charges upstream amid the roaring currents. It’s incredibly exciting to cast into turbulent water in search of specimens that can reach up to 95cm in length. Armed with fang-like teeth and explosive strikes, payara are an unforgettable challenge to any angler.
Day 9 – Back to Bogota
You set off this morning on the boat ride back to Inirida where you connect with an onward flight back to Bogota.
