The 2024 season in Argentina is getting booked up with returning rods and also rods keen to fish this amazing sea trout river for the first time. There are numerous great lodges on the river but La Villa, part of the Estancia Maria Behety stands out as one of the best. Taking only six rods, space at La Villa in prime season is the definition of dead man’s shoes. Many of the rods return every season for the combination of some of the best water on the Rio Grande, world-class guiding, the stunning lodge, great food and the best Argentine hospitality.
We have one rod available in early March. This is an excellent time to target some of the largest sea trout of the season as during this period some of the large cock fish become especially aggressive.

Focus on La Villa
Located downstream from Estancia Maria Behety La Villa is part of the same operation owned by the Menendez family. It remains one of the most historic and comfortable lodges on the river. All the rooms at La Villa are private, single occupancy rooms, elegantly decorated and with spacious private bathrooms. The lodge has the feel of a large and comfortable country house, although very much in an Argentine way.
The Fishing
Anglers at La Villa rotate through the premier pools of the lower and middle beats of the river, which have historically been the most prolific. With access to more than 102 pools, the lodge can focus on the best water according to the current conditions. The huge variety of water that La Villa offers also means that rods get a wide-ranging experience of what the Rio Grande can offer. One day you could be fishing the upstream with single-handed rods and small flies and the next downstream with a larger two-handed rod.
World class guide team
Over the years, La Villa has developed one of the most experienced guide teams on the river. The guide team know all the pools intimately and have an excellent grasp of all the techniques needed to target these sometimes finicky fish. To give you an idea of their experience Diego the head guide has been there for over twenty seasons. The experience of the team allows both beginners and experienced sea trout and salmon anglers the opportunity to learn from some of the best.
The Lodge
Guests at La Villa will enjoy a meticulously built and finished single level lodge that is comfortable, warm, inviting and efficient; designed exclusively with anglers in mind.
In addition to all of that, at La Villa there is a magnificent sitting and dining room with roaring log fire, as well as a billiard room and a wine cellar that holds 20,000 bottles of wine. The wonderfully comfortable sitting area provide the perfect place to relive the fishing of the day and relax with delicious appetizers and a cocktail. A full bar is well stocked with all the proper libations, including the finest Argentine wines and plenty of cold beer.
