Bella Sofia Lodge

Bella Sofia Lodge

Bella Sofia is located on southern Argentina’s renowned Rio Gallegos one Argentina’s premier sea-trout rivers and also a truly remarkable resident brown trout fishery. In addition to 50 premier sea-trout pools, Bella Sophia has private access to 22km of the Rio Chico, a small meandering meadow spring creek packed with surface oriented brown trout in the two pound to six pound range. While many visiting anglers focus solely on the sea-trout, this is one of the best destinations anywhere to combine anadromous pursuits with superb resident trout fishing. To not spend a few sessions on the Chico, is a shame, as this unpressured trophy spring creek is one of the most prolific trout fisheries we have experienced. The lodge caters to six guests per week in a bright, clean, classy environment and has excellent accommodations, meals, Argentine wines, and skilled bilingual guides well versed in Spey and single-hand fishing.

EL Rincon Lodge

If the idea of being able to catch sea trout on the Rio Gallegos and huge resident brown trout on the lesser known Rio Penitente appeals, then El Rincon is the one for you. It represents fantastic value for money and has great variety in the 30 kms of private fishing it has access to.

The Rio Gallegos
The privately owned 20km double bank section of the Rio Gallegos is a short drive from the lodge. Many classic looking pools are found along this length, each holding good numbers of migrating sea trout. Brown trout are present but efforts are usually concentrated on the sea trout.

The Rio Penitente
The 35 kilometres of the Rio Penitente owned by El Rincon is just a short distance from the lodge. As such, guests have the opportunity to pick up a rod and walk across the garden to try a few casts at their leisure. At normal levels, the Penitente is best fished with a single handed rod or a light switch rod.

The Penitente clears and returns to its normal height quickly after a spate. In normal conditions most of the Argentinian sea trout style rubber leg patterns work well as do more traditional nymphs. Dry flies can be used effectively in settled and lower water conditions. Streamer streamer patterns often preferred in high water or in the numerous deep holes spread along river system.
