We are delighted to introduce this new experience; a five day, hands on course learning to catch sailfish and marlin on the fly.

The experience

The aim of this billfish on the fly Morocco course is to teach you everything you need to know in order to be able to go and catch sailfish and marlin on fly, without a guide.

Based out of Mohammedia just north of Casablanca, you will spend three days and four nights learning all there is to know about billfish on fly. Everything is covered, from fly-casting instruction to rigging flies and tying 20lb tippet in shock leaders.

During the day, you will be fishing on One More, a 40ft Gamefisherman with a pro skipper Marco, crew, and your fly-fishing-guide, Jamie Melvin, who will teach you the ropes of rigging, teasing, casting to, hooking-up, and fighting billfish on fly.

As a team of three to four anglers, you will depend on each other to catch fish. Two of you will be on the teasers, and one on the fly rod, rotating with each fish – learning together and succeeding as a team with our professional guidance.

Each fish will be recorded on a GoPro for video analysis in the evenings so we can see what went right/wrong each day, and how to improve. Fly casting practice and instruction is also available each evening.

The course is run from Mohammedia, just north of Casablanca, during Morocco’s peak white marlin season between mid-August through to end of September. We will be ideally located to fish some of the best white marlin grounds in the world and you can expect to raise between 5-20 white marlin a day. There will be plenty of opportunity to practise teasing, hooking, fighting, and landing sailfish on fly.

Your guide

Your fly fishing instructor and guide for this course is Jamie Melvin.

Jamie was born and raised in Kenya. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years chasing billfish off the coast of Kenya or trout anywhere in the world he could find them. Later in life, he brought his two passions together and became a saltwater fly fishing guide.

After two years’ guiding bonefish on fly in the Bahamas, he went on to guide at Alphonse Island, Seychelles. During his three years at Alphonse, he spent thousands of hours guiding clients on the flats and offshore onto sailfish, wahoo, and tuna on fly.

From there, his journey took him to the Galapagos Islands where he now guides anglers onto marlin and sailfish on fly every year along with more guiding in Kenya and Morocco.

He has a huge amount of experience with billfish, and more than most when it comes to catching them with a fly rod.
