Colina Verde; castaway luxury in southern Mozambique
Colina Verde, on the southern Mozambique coast, is a unique property in both its location and its construction. Graham and Lucy Pollard will ensure that you have everything you need and you quickly feel Colina Verde is your home from home. The lodge is ideal for families, couples or groups and offers a unique style. Every room has been individually furnished, there is no corporate stamp here.
Colina Verde, fishing Mozambique’s coast
From Colina Verde, explore the waters surrounding the Machangulo peninsula. Whether you are a keen angler or a beginner, the fishing around Machangulo has something for everyone. These waters are very species rich. The lodge has fishing tackle for all fishing disciplines. Whether trolling, fly fishing or spinning you will be catered for. Graham Pollard, an expert guide, will be on hand to ensure that your fishing experience is the best it can be.
Colina Verde has an active ‘Tag and Release’ program and recently re-caught one of their previously tagged fish. The giant trevally had grown 6 centimeters and 3.5 kilograms and was re-tagged and released to swim another day.
Colina Verde; simple elegance in Mozambique
Perched high on its green hill, with its unobstructed 360 degree views, Colina Verde’s bedroom views are as unique. So too are the decorations and furnishings within. Each room reflects an element of its name and sports either King or Queen beds. In addition, the family rooms have separate additional beds on the upper levels.
The ensuite bathrooms are all equally different. One may have a sunken stone bath, another a freestanding copper tub. There may be an indoor shower or an outdoor shower. There is also one with an elegant freestanding white bath with an unparalleled view out over the ocean. The fireplace in the Inhaca room adds a little extra touch of romance to the room.
With split levels and abundant decking outside, the interior of the house was designed to feel light and airy during the day. Once the sun has sunk beyond the horizon it becomes snug and cosy. As a result, with the lamps lit the soft glow brings out the warmth of the wood and the subtle atmosphere encourages pure relaxation.
If you ever tire of the beach, there is always the infinity style swimming pool. The pool is heated and inviting even in the cooler months. The adjacent hot tub overlooking the ocean is the perfect place to relax in the evening. In addition, a second hot tub sits high above the dune on the south deck of the house. It is a spectacular spot to contemplate the moon and the stars of an African night sky.
There is also a massage room, a games room, gym and space for yoga or meditation.
In addition, using local ingredients, meals are prepared by the chef using fresh, healthy local ingredients. That also includes produce from the lodge’s garden. The meals have a seafood emphasis and are served at different locations around the house. Nespresso coffee and a wide selection of teas are on hand. Furthermore, afternoon cake is served in the lobby and also to round off each day, tempting bites are served with sun downer cocktails in the evenings.
Colina Verde; the green hill with stunning views
Colina Verde is Portuguese for green hill. Situated at the top of a remote and stunning dune, it is on the peninsula of Machangulo, in southern Mozambique adjacent to Inhaca Island in the Bay of Maputo. The total area of Machangulo Reserve covers 10,000 hectares (24,710 acres), with a rugged 20 kilometre (12.4 miles) of Indian Ocean coastline. The 120-meter (394 foot) high dune habitats include coastal dune forest, mangrove and inland freshwater lakes.
