It has been a wet start to the taimen fly fishing in Mongolia in 2019, with the first groups arriving to see the rivers big and swollen. Whilst this can be intimidating when fishing, when targeting a species like taimen that are preying on other fish and small mammals these conditions can be great. The smaller fish often get shoaled up in small back eddies and refuges out of the current that the taimen can hunt through.

The first group on the Delger Muron Float trip connected to several monster taimen, most of which were lost but one of the biggest was landed by an Australian angler whilst guided by Jack. When the strong fish finally came to the net, both angler and guide were extremely excited.

The wonderful fish measured at 58 inches (147 cm), thought to be a new river record and a real fish of a lifetime. What a way to start the season and we are excited to see what the rest of the season has to offer.
