Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 3 – August 23rd to 30th
Week three brought a different challenge to the Rio Marié. With water levels continuing to rise, fish became more scattered and increasingly difficult to pattern, demanding constant adjustments from anglers and guides throughout the week. Hosted by longtime friend Matt, the group relied on experience, consistency, and careful reading of the river to keep creating opportunities.
Instead of waiting for conditions to become easier, the boats adapted day by day, focusing on edges and structure and making every opportunity count. And during a week when each encounter carried extra weight, one explosive surface take delivered exactly the kind of moment that reminds us why topwater fishing for trophy peacock bass is so memorable.
Unforgettable moments
During a week when fish were more scattered and every opportunity carried extra importance, Matt produced a moment that captured the excitement of topwater fishing on the Rio Marié.
Working the surface with one of his favourite peacock bass flies, the Pole Dancer, Matt drew an explosive strike from an 85cm temensis. The fish attacked directly on the surface, creating the kind of visual encounter that makes topwater fishing so compelling.
For an experienced Rio Marié angler hosting his own group through a challenging week, it was a fitting moment. A well placed fly, an aggressive surface take, and a trophy class fish that rewarded the continued search.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 2 – August 16th to 23rd
In the Amazon, giant peacock bass are rarely the result of luck alone. They are earned through persistence, consistency, teamwork, and the ability to adapt—and the second week of the 2026 Rio Marié season proved exactly that.
Week two also opened a new chapter with the first Headwaters Camp expedition of the season. Part of the group traveled into the upper reaches of the Rio Marié, while the remaining anglers continued exploring the main river from Untamed Amazon.
The river rose steadily throughout the week, constantly reshaping the fishing conditions and demanding careful decisions from our entire team. Movement became the name of the game. Taking full advantage of the mobility of Untamed Amazon, we repositioned the mothership, explored different stretches of the river, and kept our anglers close to the areas where the best opportunities were developing.
The contrast between the Headwaters Camp and the main river created two distinct experiences unfolding simultaneously across the Marié. Yet both groups shared the same essential approach: remain focused, fish consistently, and adapt to every change the river presented.
Even under challenging conditions, that strategy produced exceptional results: three peacock bass over 20lb, ten fish measuring more than 80cm, and the first 90cm fish of the season—a spectacular 24.5lb giant.
These results demonstrate what makes Rio Marié so extraordinary: the long-term protection of an immense and pristine watershed, the deep knowledge and dedication of our Indigenous and professional guides, and an operation designed to move with the river instead of simply waiting for conditions to improve.
Unforgettable moments
Some fishing days require hours of searching before the right opportunity appears. Others change almost immediately.
Less than five minutes after he began fishing one morning, Joe connected with an enormous peacock bass. It was his first fish of the day—and one of the defining catches of the entire week.
After a powerful fight, Joe landed an impressive 85cm, 20lb temensis. Catching a fish of that calibre is always remarkable, but encountering one within the opening minutes of the session made the moment unforgettable.
It was a perfect example of what the Rio Marié can deliver at any moment. Every cast matters, every opportunity must be taken, and persistence must always be matched by readiness.
One of the week’s most exciting moments was sight-fishing to a true giant holding near the surface. After the fish repeatedly refused larger flies, we noticed it was chasing much smaller baitfish and changed to a pattern that matched their size.
The adjustment worked immediately. The fish attacked on the first cast, took the line deep into the backing, and raced toward the structure. After an intense fight, we landed the first 90cm peacock bass of the season—a spectacular 24.5lb temensis.
A perfect example of how observation, adaptation, and precise decisions can turn an opportunity into the fish of a lifetime.
As the river continues to rise, the coming days will demand even greater attention to how conditions develop throughout the main river and the headwaters.
Week two reinforced a fundamental truth about fishing in the Amazon: conditions may change quickly, but persistence, consistency, teamwork, and intelligent movement create opportunities. On the Rio Marié, any one of those opportunities can become the fish of a lifetime.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 1 – August 9th to 16th
The 2026 season began with a group of Brazilian anglers, several of them longtime Rio Marié veterans returning once again to pursue the giant peacock bass that define this fishery.
From the opening days, their experience on these waters shaped the rhythm of the week. Familiarity with the fishery, careful reading of the river, and consistent execution created a strong start to the new season.
With mostly sunny conditions and water levels beginning to drop toward the end of the week, the Rio Marié offered a dynamic opening chapter and set the tone for the weeks ahead.
Unforgettable moments:
Eric is a true Rio Marié veteran, with years of casts and stories accumulated on these waters. Yet this opening week gave him something he had never experienced before.
In clear water, Eric spotted a giant peacock bass guarding its nest and had the opportunity to sight cast to the fish. He placed the fly in its path, watched the fish turn and eat, and stayed connected through the run.
The result was his first ever sight casted 20lb peacock bass, a new milestone even after many seasons on the Marié and a catch that added another chapter to his history with the river.
Earlier in the week, Helton had an opportunity at a true giant but watched the fish slip away. Rather than allowing that moment to define his trip, he remained focused and continued working the water.
His second opportunity came on the afternoon of the final day. This time he connected and landed a beautiful 20 lb peacock bass, closing his week with one of the fish he had come to the Rio Marié to find.
After an opening opportunity was lost, finishing the trip with a fish of that class made the final afternoon especially meaningful.
