The mid-summer fly fishing on the English chalkstreams has witnessed some fairly unseasonable windy and rainy storms. Air temperatures have been up and down, but most importantly some freshening rain has entered into the various systems ahead of the final six to eight weeks of the brown trout season.
Squally gusts have made dry fly casting problematic at times but the fly hatches have been steady. Those willing to stay out on pleasant evenings have also encounter good showings of caddis, blue winged olive spinners and spurwing spinners. Over the course of the next few weeks we would expect the dry fly fishing to steadily improve with day time hatches increasing.
