With just a few weeks to go to the start of the 2017 chalkstream season now  is the time to get the tackle checked over from last year ready for the off  here in the South of England.

The season opening date varies very slightly across the regions where we have access to chalkstream beats.

Southern Area which includes the rivers Test, Itchen Anton.  3rd April through to 31st October.
Thames area, rivers Kennet and Lambourn.  1st April through to 30th September.
Wessex area, Hampshire Avon, Wylye Nadder Frome and Piddle.  1st April through to 15th October.
Historically most riparian owners in the Test valley do not open their waters until the 1st May but If you would like to wet a line at the start of the season there is some good availability on the Kennet in opening week  at £140.00 / rod and on the Anton from the 10th of April at £266.00/ rod and now is a perfect time to get a day booked in the diary.

Fishery Byelaws

It is very likely that there will be hatches of Large Dark Olives and possibly Grannom at the start of the season to temp the trout to the top of the water.
