Piedmont and Trentino, Italy, September 2026
Join Alistair Routledge for an 8-day alpine adventure showcasing the finest fly fishing in the Italian Alps. This hosted journey begins in the pristine rivers of Val di Mastallone, and concludes amid the dramatic landscapes of Val di Non in Trentino, two of Italy’s premier fishing regions

Val di Mastallone – Piedmont’s Hidden Gem
Set beneath the Alps and Monte Rosa, Val di Mastallone is renowned for its clear, trout-filled waters, including the prized marble trout. Anglers can explore an array of private beats, from tumbling mountain streams ideal for dry flies to larger, more technical sections perfect for nymphing or streamer fishing.
Trentino – The Heart of Alpine Fly Fishing
Home to the Dolomites, over 3,000 km of rivers, and nearly 300 lakes, Trentino offers extraordinary variety for fly fishers of all levels. Expect brown trout in high mountain streams, marble trout and grayling in the larger rivers, and even rainbow trout or Arctic char in select alpine lakes. With expert English-speaking guides, anglers can focus on their preferred styles, be it dry fly, modern nymphing, or big-fish streamer tactics.
These two videos give a great idea of what you can expect in each destination.

Why ALISTAIR wants to visit this destination
Apart from the excellent fly fishing and the allure of the fabled marble trout, Alistair is most excited to take in the dramatic landscapes and culture of the Italian Alps. Few other regions offer such an intoxicating mix of beautiful scenery, storied history, and wild rivers brimming with trout.
Trip Itinerary
Saturday 5th September – On arrival in Milan you will be met and transferred to your accommodation at Piano delle Fate, a beautifully situated lodge overlooking prime water. Accommodation consists of four comfortable cabins, each with two en-suite bedrooms and a shared living area. Meals are served in the main restaurant, featuring excellent local produce, classic regional dishes, a well-stocked bar, and the essential finishing touch—an Italian espresso. Accommodation at Piano delle Fate is on a full board basis, with packed lunches provided to maximise your time on the river.
Sunday 6th – Tuesday 8th September – You will spend three full days fishing a diverse network of waters, including the Mastallone, Sesia, Carcoforo, and numerous smaller tributaries, each offering its own character. Expect everything from fast, boulder-strewn streams alive with dry-fly-eating brown trout to broader sections ideal for dry flies, nymphing, and targeting elusive marble trout with streamers. Expert local guides tailor each day to the angler and conditions.
Wednesday 9th September – After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll visit the local fishing museum, before being transferred to the next leg of the trip. Situated in Coredo, in the heart of Trentino, the Miraval Hotel is a warm, family-run alpine retreat. Set against the Brenta Dolomites, the hotel blends rustic wooden architecture with sleek stone detailing, offering cozy rooms as well as a restaurant and well-stocked bar. This afternoon, you’ll visit a local vineyard for a wine-tasting before heading back to the hotel for a well-deserved dinner. Accommodation at Miraval Hotel is on a half board basis, serving breakfast and dinner.
Thursday 10th – Saturday 12th September – You will spend three full days fishing the incredible Val di Non region of the Dolomites. The Noce River, flowing from the Stelvio National Park down Val di Non, offers superb fly-fishing across a variety of water types. You will target native marble trout, brown trout, and even grayling, depending on the stretch. The river includes fast, rocky alpine runs, deep pools, and smoother valley-bottom stretches, giving fly fishers the chance to use everything from dry flies to nymphs and streamers. Several tributaries, like the Vermigliana and Meledrio, also support rich wild trout populations.
Sunday 13th September – After breakfast at the hotel you will be transferred to Verona Airport for your onward journey
