Alphonse fishing report 7th – 14th December 2019
From a tropical cyclone last week to the most perfect weather this week, the Seychelles can be a funny place. The ten visiting anglers were extremely lucky to experience such amazing conditions throughout the week. The wind turned to a light westerly, this brought with it calm waters and some amazing catches. The calm conditions brought milkfish up to feed and allowed anglers to make consistent shots throughout the week.
The bonefishing was great as always, with the group landing a total of 366 fish. The week produced the biggest bonefish of the season, landed by Marcel Ditteich and measuring a whopping 69 cm. Day one proved excellent for all anglers. Andrew Cadman caught the fish of a lifetime, a stunning 66 cm permit. Mark Holme and Colin Kingsnorth landed one GT each. Two sailfish were caught on fly by anglers fishing bluewater. A further two GT’s were landed on day two by David Geer and Phillip Robarts.
Day six turned out to be the day of the week for GT’s. James Haspel landed an 80 cm GT, Collin landed another and the angler of the week Mark landed three GT’s in one session. Despite much of the group making shots at milkfish it was only Paul Davidson who landed a fish, a beautiful milk of 90 cm. Richard Moore came close, hooking a massive milkfish and playing it for an hour and a half before losing it at the boat, bitterly disappointing. Another three sail fish were landed by Jeff and Dale who were diverted to Alphonse due to bad weather on the Providance Atoll. All in all a superb week of fishing on Alphonse.
