Christmas Island is a magical destination, not simply for its world-class angling opportunities but also for its strikingly beautiful natural resources and happy, compassionate I-Kiribati people. If your angling adventure bucket list includes a visit to Kiritimati – and it certainly should – then Christmas Island Lodge is a great place to consider for a superb fly fishing holiday.
Living in such a remote spot is not without its challenges and we have recently received this request for help from our friends at Christmas Island Lodge. The lodge is hosting a team medical professionals for a week in April to bring much needed medical care to the islanders.

Here’s what they hope to achieve and how you can help:
The mission
We’ve assembled a diverse volunteer team—dermatologists, dentists, generalists, optometrists, wound care specialists, and others—to travel to CXI and tackle the island’s most pressing health issues through on-site clinics, outreach, and targeted supply donations. Everything is coordinated directly with local health officials.
The Need
Extreme isolation and limited resources mean many locals struggle with basic healthcare: diagnostics, routine check-ups, chronic disease management, dental care, and more. Off-island referrals are rare and expensive.
Long term vision
This first doctor’s week is also a foundation for future trips – building a network of returning providers with island-specific expertise and expanding care across more remote Kiribati islands.
How you can help
The volunteer caregivers are donating their time and expertise. The main costs are travel for the team and additional medical supplies/equipment. 100% of donations go directly to these expenses—no admin fees, no fluff.
If you would like to make a donation, you can find all the details here.
