Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2025/6 season – 2nd to 14th January

Early January on Cosmoledo delivered a dynamic start to the new year, shaped by powerful spring tides, calmer neap phases, shifting weather, and a group of guests eager to embrace everything the atoll had to offer. From walking the surf on draining tides to sight fishing glassy flats, adapting to wind and rain, and balancing fishing with diving, snorkelling, and conservation work, Cosmoledo once again showcased its remarkable versatility.

Giant trevally were the dominant force across both weeks, with dramatic tidal movement creating ideal feeding corridors for these apex predators. As spring tides dried the flats, GTs pushed aggressively into shallow water, offering explosive opportunities on both the surf and inner flats.

Kylie, visiting the Seychelles for the first time and new to saltwater fly fishing, enjoyed a moment she will never forget by landing her first-ever giant trevally on fly, the perfect introduction to Cosmoledo. Ryan capped off the week by landing his own first GT on the final day. The following week delivered a wave of firsts for our anglers, John and Tom both landed their first giant trevally, quickly followed by additional fish as confidence grew. Malcolm soon joined them, landing his own first GT and adding more to his tally as the week progressed. Across both weeks, GTs were taken by guests walking the surf, wading the flats, and fishing from skiffs.

Permit made a rare but spectacular appearance during the second week, delivering one of the standout moments of the January period. After several sightings and cautious follows earlier in the week, Tom’s persistence was rewarded in unforgettable fashion when he landed a massive 75cm permit on a crystal-clear sand flat. The fish, the biggest permit of the season so far, tested skill, patience, and composure, and quickly became one of the defining highlights of the fortnight.

Triggerfish action added variety and technical challenge to the flats fishing. Marcus Jr. opened the account with a moustache triggerfish during the spring tide push, followed by Jack, who also landed a moustache trigger while wading the flats. Bonefish featured steadily throughout both weeks, often appearing during windows when conditions made targeting other species more difficult. Janis landed a solid bonefish, while David enjoyed multiple bonefish sessions, including a standout fish measuring 61cm. Tom and Malcolm also added bonefish to their tallies, rounding out varied days on the flats.

Cosmoledo’s diversity was on full display with, Christopher caught a beautiful saddleback grouper, adding an unexpected highlight to a flats session and showcasing the richness of the atoll’s ecosystems.

Beyond the fishing, both weeks offered exceptional eco-tourism experiences. Diving proved outstanding, with Margaret and David completing a combined total of 21 dives. Grey reef sharks, potato grouper, shoals of batfish, and vibrant reef life dominated dives in the lee of the islands. Jennifer enjoyed a far more settled second week, completing ten dives and capturing remarkable encounters with pelagic fish, reef fish and nudibranchs.

Snorkelling, kayaking, island exploration, and conservation played a major role as well. Guests Venetia, Jana, Dan, Peter and Katrin embraced every aspect of island life, participating in extensive beach clean-ups, kayaking in the lagoon, and exploring the atoll by foot and boat, combining learning, adventure, and conservation into a well-rounded Cosmoledo experience.

Across spring tides and neaps, calm days and challenging weather, early January on Cosmoledo delivered exactly what this atoll is known for — diversity, adaptability, and unforgettable moments. From first-ever giant trevally and a season-defining permit to productive flats sessions, world-class diving, and hands-on conservation, guests experienced the full spectrum of what makes Cosmoledo such a special destination.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2025/6 season – 5th to 31st December

The festive period on Cosmoledo delivered an exceptional blend of prime conditions, dynamic tides, and unforgettable fishing and diving experiences. From full-moon spring tides that dried the flats completely to calm neap tides offering prolonged access to lagoon systems and reef edges, the atoll showcased its full range of exceptional experiences and magic. Across December, guests experienced explosive giant trevally action, challenging triggerfish encounters, rare permit moments, and world-class diving, all set against some of the best weather Cosmoledo sees all year.

Giant trevally were the undisputed stars of the festive period on Cosmoledo. Across the four weeks, an extraordinary number of fish were landed in a wide range of environments, from shallow surf zones, skinny flats, lagoon edges and deep outer reef drop-offs. A total of 82 GTs made it to the net over the period. Father-and-son pair Laurent and Joseph both landed GTs on their first day in the surf, while Joseph added multiple triggerfish to his tally. Michael landed his first GT on fly, opening the door to several more as the week progressed. Ethan closed the week in style with a 104cm GT on the final day.

Ralph took full advantage of having the flats largely to himself, landing several GTs despite windier conditions. Anne-Marie also crossed over into fly fishing, landing her first-ever GT on fly, a special festive milestone. Chris and Henrick, no strangers to the outer islands, focused on targeting larger fish during spring tides, landing a solid number of GTs across the week. Offshore bait balls added another layer of excitement as GTs fed aggressively alongside tuna. Henrick’s persistence was rewarded with two metre-plus fish on his final day of 113cm and 115cm, respectively. Chris landed a hefty 98cm fish and rounding out an exceptional end to the year.

Triggerfish featured strongly early in the festive period, rewarding patience and precision on the flats and surf edges. Joseph enjoyed a standout week, landing two moustache triggers and his first yellow-margin trigger measuring 54cm. Laurent also landed his first yellow-margin trigger, while Michael and Andrew both celebrated their first moustache triggers.

Permit remained elusive, as expected on Cosmoledo, but persistence paid off for a select few during the festive stretch. Ian Hodge dedicated a significant amount of time to permit fishing during his time on Cosmo. After multiple sightings and close calls, he successfully landed a 65cm Indo-Pacific permit, only to later add another one to his tally on the same day the previous year, closing both the week and the year with one of fly fishing’s most prized species. The ever-present plus-sized bonefish kept our anglers very busy during quieter periods on the flats.

Offshore and reef fishing added depth and diversity to the festive experience on Cosmoledo. Henrick landed a memorable dogtooth tuna on a fly, a rare and highly prized catch, particularly on a fly! Michael landed a striking Napoleon wrasse, while Andrew and others encountered a variety of reef species that highlighted Cosmoledo’ s extraordinary biodiversity. Henrick also added a powerful 130cm barracuda to his tally.

Diving played a major role throughout the festive period. Coralyn completed an impressive 16 dives in a week alone, while Oliver and Carole each logged 12 dives throughout their stay. Guests encountered manta rays, tiger sharks, reef sharks, potato bass, dogtooth tuna, and countless reef species across pristine dive sites. Snorkelling, island walks, birding excursions, and beach clean-ups added to the holistic Cosmoledo experience, reinforcing the atoll’s balance of adventure, discovery, and conservation. Highlights included encounters with red-footed boobies, mangrove ecosystems alive with sharks and turtles, and unforgettable dune sundowners overlooking the lagoon.

From explosive GT fishing and rare permit successes to trophy triggerfish, deep-water battles, and exceptional diving, Cosmoledo delivered a festive season that perfectly captured the essence of this remote atoll. Stable weather, productive tides, and low guest numbers allowed for deeply personal and enriching experiences across both fishing and leisure activities. December on Cosmoledo once again proved why this atoll stands among the world’s most remarkable wilderness destinations, a fitting and unforgettable way to close out the year in the outer islands.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2025/6 season – 21st to 24th November

Our mixed fishing and conservation group touched down in the Seychelles on the 21st, stepping out into a world of flawless weather. The sky was a deep, endless blue and the ocean stretched out like untouched glass — the kind of conditions guides dream of. Their first stop was Astove, where they geared up for an introduction to the Outer Islands that none of them would forget.

From the moment they descended along the legendary Astove Wall, the group was captivated. The dramatic vertical drop, alive with corals and swirling fish, became the backdrop to Ellie’s first-ever ocean dive — an unforgettable personal milestone set against one of the most breathtaking underwater landscapes in the world. After their dive, the group boarded the boat for the crossing to Cosmoledo Atoll. The ocean remained calm as they travelled, and halfway across they were met by an exuberant pod of spinner dolphins. The dolphins lived up to their name, bursting out of the water in spinning arcs, riding the bow wave and thrilling everyone onboard. As the heat of the afternoon grew, the guests stopped the boat, leapt into the deep blue water, and drifted blissfully in one of the most pristine seas imaginable.

Arriving at Cosmoledo, the group’s energy was still high, and they set out for a snorkel inside the atoll. With rays of late sunlight cutting through the water and fish flashing beneath them, it offered a perfect first look at the wildness of this remote paradise. That night, they gathered under a sky heavy with stars, dining outdoors in warm island air, the sound of the ocean never far away.

The next morning, the group split up: some headed out for a 2-tank dive, while the rest set off across the flats in search of their first fly-fishing opportunities. The calm conditions held, and the atoll looked as if it had been polished overnight. That day, John made the first major catch of the trip — the first Giant Trevally (GT) landed on fly for the week, and his personal first of the season. The fish charged the fly hard, giving him exactly the kind of adrenaline-filled fight Cosmoledo is famous for.

The following day, the entire group committed to a full day of fly fishing, and Cosmoledo delivered in classic fashion. Guide and diving instructor Liam worked with the father-and-son team, Sverre and Bjourne, putting them onto beautiful bonefish. Meanwhile, Elle, who had never saltwater fly fished before, hooked and landed her first GT. A first GT is always special — but a first GT on your first day of saltwater fly fishing is a story she’ll carry for life. Elsewhere on the flats, John and Jose enjoyed a banner day. Together, they landed yellow-dot trevally, African marble grouper, and Bohar Snapper. José surpassed even his own expectations by landing two GTs, both his first ever. Bjarne, too, joined the GT club with his first fish, and later, Fred added his own first-ever GT to the growing list of achievements.

The next morning, the group split once more. Some chose to journey by boat to the South-West cliffs, one of Cosmoledo’s most dramatic and ecologically rich corners. There they encountered enormous colonies of red-footed boobies and drifting frigatebirds riding the wind above them. The cliffs are home to one of the largest booby colonies in the Seychelles, and seeing the birds return in waves, filling the sky with movement and sound, was a powerful reminder of the island’s untouched wildness.

Those who chose to fish had another unforgettable day. Lauren, daughter of Fred, landed her first GT on fly, following in her father’s footsteps from the day before. John caught a strong, beautifully coloured Napoleon wrasse, while Jose, still on a roll, hooked and landed a metre-long Napoleon wrasse, a fish as impressive in power as it is in size. And to top off the day, Jan fought and landed a 96cm GT, a world-class fish and a tremendous achievement on a fly rod. Before departing Cosmoledo, several guests took advantage of the last morning tide. Fred ended on a high landing his first bonefish and his first bluefin trevally, a perfect final note to an already memorable week.

Throughout the week, the tides transitioned from spring into neap, providing a dynamic mix of conditions — fast-moving water early in the week and slower, more technical flats later on. Combined with the virtually windless days and clear skies, it created a dream backdrop for both diving and fly fishing.

From first dives to first GTs, from wild dolphin encounters to the sight of thousands of seabirds nesting on untouched cliffs, the week unfolded like a storybook version of Cosmoledo at its best. The T&C group explored the atoll in every way — by fin, by fly rod, by snorkel, and by boat — and left with memories that reflect the magic of this remote ecosystem.
