If you’re keen to try your hand at fabulous blue water fishing off the coast of Costa Rica, we are delighted to be able to offer a special based at Crocodile Bay.
Nestled between Nicaragua and Panama, Costa Rica lives up to its name the “Rich Coast”. Its progressive environmental policies have allowed both land and sea to flourish, making it one of the finest fishing and eco-tourism destinations in the world. The fishing is hugely varied, with most inshore and offshore species present year round. Not only the scene of excellent fishing but also a plethora of non-fishing activities and eco-exploration, there is a diverse range of fishing for conventional and fly anglers alike.

There is little doubt that the west coast of Costa Rica has some of the finest blue water fishing anywhere on the planet. It is hugely varied with most inshore and offshore species present year round. Like the ecologically rich land, the sea is filled with everything from small baitfish to the biggest of blue water species. The action is often fast and furious as these hunters attack small packs of baitfish along contours close to the beaches and surrounding structure. Sailfish and marlin appear out of the depths, slashing at teasers and casts must be quick and accurate. Flashing all shades of electric blue, they down your surface lure, their bills cutting through the water in pursuit of the fly. The excitement is not over once hooked, the searing runs and soaring jumps of sailfish and the brutish power of a marlin will test the angler and skipper to their limits.

Among the areas to fish around Costa Rica’s west coast is the Osa Peninsula, undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of Costa Rican blue water fishing and a fantastic venue for those looking for an all-round blue water experience, whether on fly or on conventional gear. And it’s here that you will find Crocodile Bay, one of Costa Rica’s finest sport fishing and eco-tourism resorts which also boasts the largest sport fishing team in Central America.

Around the lodge, and for miles to the north and south, the blue water billfish grounds are only a few miles offshore which means it rarely takes much time before you are fishing. The resort caters for anglers and non-anglers staying at the luxury Botánika Osa Peninsula, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton. Along with fishing each day you can explore one of the many eco-tours that are run from the resort.
