Estancia Chochoy Mallin
Exclusive fishing in a remote, lightly fished corner of Patagonia
Estancia Chochoy Mallin is a traditional Patagonian Ranch with more than 100 years of history, now transformed into a boutique fishing lodge. Crossed by three crystal clear rivers, the Reni Leuvu, Trocoman and Nireco, along with access to many spring creeks and nearby waters, it is a destination offering variety, privacy and authentic local hospitality.
Three private rivers
Nestled in the heard of Cordillera del Viento in northern Patagonia, the estancia spans 15,000 hectares of pristine wilderness. Visiting anglers have access to three private rivers plus creeks, freestones and small lakes to fish for wild brown, rainbow and brook trout. The fishing is mostly dry fly, nymph and streamer while wading the crystal clear rivers and spring creeks. Float/boat fishing is possible on the larger rivers.
The drive time can be anything from five minutes to one hour, depending on the chosen water, with lunch usually taken by the river. Catching 20 plus trout per day is entirely possible, with the average size around 14 to 18 inches. There are plenty of chances to catch fish up to 24 inches and with the odd specimen of over 24 inches. Two anglers are accompanied by each professional guide and fishing here is suitable for all ages and skill levels, from hardcore anglers to families.
A variety of activities can be arranged alongside fishing, among which are birdwatching, horse riding, trekking and cultural tours.
Comfortable, cosy lodge
Estancia Chochoy Mallin lodge provides accommodation for up to 11 guests in five spacious double rooms and one single room. All the rooms are en-suite. The comfortable living areas, complete with fireplace, have views of the nearby mountain range. WiFi is available in the rooms, bar and main lodge. Delicious farm to table meals – the regional goat speciality is a true highlight – are paired with local wines. All told, the family run lodge has strong sense of Patagonian tradition and is a lovely spot from which to enjoy all on offer here.
Remote, peaceful setting
The lodge is located in the Neguen Province of northern Patagonia and is around a six hour drive from Neuguen or San Martin de los Andes airports. It is also possible to take a private charter directly to the region.
