Fishermen looking for an adventurous angling experience will enjoy this new mobile camping outpost of Makhangoa Community Camp in Lesotho’s Bekong Valley.

The mobile camp option will be available in March which signals a change of season at the Makhangoa Community Camp in the Lesotho mountains. It is a dynamic time of year, moving from the frantic fly-fishing days of high summer to the more subtle and technical days of autumn. It is a time when fitness and finesse are rewarded with incredible sight fishing for fewer, but larger, yellowfish and brown trout on the upper beats of the Bokong River, as well as rainbow trout throughout the system.

March is also when the Bokong ‘estuary’ comes alive. Yellowfish and rainbow trout gather in good numbers here, and swinging flies on Beat One or fishing from the drift boats at the Bokong/Katse confluence produces great results. The weather is stable, and the cooler evenings are perfect for long nights around the fire.
Backcountry Mobile Camp
For the month of March 2026, it will be possible to experience a mobile camp deep in the Bokong Valley, offering MCC guests the opportunity to spend extended periods on these upper beats—seldom fished during the season. Set against a backdrop of 3,000m peaks, remote shepherd outposts, and the endangered bearded vulture, the mobile camp provides a unique glimpse into the wildest reaches of the upper Bokong Valley, before returning to the comfort of the Makhangoa Community Camp.

Accessible only by foot with pack animals, the mobile camp consists of three shared tents (catering to groups of two to six ) and a tented dining area. This option is ideal for adventurous anglers with a good level of fitness, looking to add an unforgettable few days to their Makhangoa experience this March.

Community Support
The Motsoele Village Class Room (12km from the nearest road) will be the benefactor of all levies raised through the mobile camp. This isolated school occupies a very special place in the hearts of MCC staff and guests, and it is a privilege to continue to assist staff and pupils with structural upgrades and school supplies over the coming season.
