There’s more to Alphonse Island than fly fishing, as many of our non-angling guests will know. We’ve just received another great report of the wildlife highlights at this Seychellois wonderland.
February unfolded beautifully across the Alphonse Group, bringing a dynamic blend of neap and spring tides that created consistently favourable conditions for ocean exploration. Winds remained light to moderate throughout the month, generally ranging between 1–15 knots with occasional gusts. Calm seas and excellent underwater visibility set the stage for memorable days both above and below the surface.
These ideal conditions allowed guests to fully immerse themselves in the rhythm of island life, from vibrant coral reefs and expansive lagoons to remote sand flats and untouched islands. With every tide came new opportunities to explore, discover, and connect with one of the most remarkable marine environments in the Indian Ocean.
The waters surrounding Alphonse once again delivered extraordinary wildlife encounters throughout the month. Manta rays were frequently observed gliding effortlessly across cleaning stations, offering guests unforgettable moments beneath the surface. Large pods of dolphins regularly appeared alongside boats and divers, their playful energy adding excitement to many ocean outings.
Nurse sharks were commonly spotted resting beneath coral ledges, while green turtles cruised gracefully through the lagoons and along the reef edges. Pelagic activity also provided several thrilling sightings, including sailfish encountered during dives, eagle rays soaring over coral gardens, and powerful giant trevally patrolling the reef drop-offs.

A handful of bull shark encounters added an extra pulse of adrenaline to certain dives, reminding guests of the untamed nature of the surrounding ocean.
Above the water, the skies above Alphonse became increasingly animated with the return of frigate birds roosting on the island. Their silhouettes circling overhead in the golden light of late afternoon became a familiar and iconic sight. Together, these encounters highlight the remarkable biodiversity of the Alphonse Group and the thriving marine ecosystem that makes this remote atoll so exceptional. Throughout the month, guests embraced the full range of experiences available on Alphonse, creating unforgettable moments both in the ocean and on land. Diving remained a highlight, with regular two-tank and one-tank dives exploring Alphonse’s vibrant coral reefs, the outer reef systems, and the Sailfish sites, while Discover Scuba Diving experiences introduced new divers to the underwater world.

Snorkelling excursions to the Alphonse House Reef, the Outer Reef, and Sailfish sites proved equally rewarding, alongside the popular Manta Experience. Signature adventures such as Blue Safari excursions, reef flats explorations, and the iconic flats lunch on nearby St François offered guests a truly unique way to experience the atoll, while guided nature walks on St François and visits to Bijoutier revealed the incredible biodiversity of the surrounding islands. Back on Alphonse, guests enjoyed cycling around the island, lagoon kayaking, surf sessions, sunset cruises, and participating in conservation initiatives such as beach clean ups. Several guests also celebrated personal milestones by completing Discover Scuba Diving experiences or challenging themselves with activities like kayaking around the entire island, reflecting the shared spirit of adventure, curiosity, and connection with the natural environment that defined February on Alphonse Island.
