Alphonse Island – 31st December 2022 to 6th January 2023

It’s been another memorable week fishing Alphonse Island, Bitjoutier and St Francois Atoll, and anglers have enjoyed targeting the big five species and had success landing some good fish. Here’s the latest fishing news from this Seychelles fishing idyll.

The week started with neap tides and slowly progressed into spring. This allowed for great triggerfishing on the neaps and better GT fishing towards the end of the week. There were plenty of triggers tailing and out to play on the fingers and in the surf, often a tell-tale sign of exceptionally good triggerfishing. However, the active triggerfish also meant the anglers were in for multiple good opportunities, multiple fights and multiple heartbreaks. A total of eight moustache triggerfish were landed during the week with three being over 45cm. The biggest was a trophy of 51cm caught in the surf near Rat Rays Channel.

Once the tide started pushing hard towards the end of the week, the geets pushed up onto the flats in numbers as they have the last couple of weeks. The fish were all on sharks and rays as the cold water pushed. Eleven GTs were landed in total with the biggest being 92cm.

Gavin had one exceptional day on the flats and managed a ‘Super Slam’ consisting of a giant trevally, triggerfish, milkfish and a bonefish to finish up. Just a permit shy of the Golden Grand Slam. Well done to Gavin and his guide Graham for an unforgettable day on the flats!

Cosmoledo Atoll – 29th December 2022 to 5th January 2023

This new year week on Cosmo held an exciting combination of fishing guests and a couple of leisure guests who were focused on diving. While we spent lots of time on the flats like usual, we also opted for a few days of blue water fishing, which was very productive.

Chris Griffith, having spent the previous week with us and heading into his second, had his eye trained and his rod warmed up. His good touch managed to land him five GTs and a magical bonefish. Kelly Dangoor caught three giant trevally for the week and a very special napoleon wrasse while sight fishing on the flats, which is an amazing achievement.

Garth Skinner caught a giant trevally on the flats and took full advantage of the blue water fishing catching a yellowfin tuna and a hard-fighting wahoo. Chris also got in on the blue water action and brought a beautiful napoleon wrasse to hand.
